Oliveira powers Blue Bombers to win over Tiger-Cats

HAMILTON — The Winnipeg Blue Bombers inched closer to securing a West Division title after beating out the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday evening. A touchdown score and 147-yard rushing performance from Brady Oliveira lifted the visitors to a 31-10 victory at Tim Hortons Field.

Solid win by the Blue and Gold. Their D got better as the game went on and Oliveira was true to form. They overcame a slow start in the nick of time unlike the Tiger-Cats and Elks who must now win out and get plenty of divine intervention in order to get in.

As far as I’m concerned White can be CUT immediately. I tired of his drop passes that kill touchdowns and kill drives on 2nd down. White’s BIG pay cheque can be put to better use bringing in better players for less money. Also note, Winnipeg lost Bighill and brought in a large strong MLB to replace him. All 3 of the Ticat linebackers are too small and too weak to play Professional Football. We really miss Thurman and Lawrence. GM Ed Hervey is missing in action and his first year as the sole GM has been a bust. Get to work Ed and start signing the best NFL cuts that are now available. Scott don’t be afraid to cut players who totally underperformed tonight. We need to put the fear of God in players that their jobs are on the line (because they are), so they will play better in the final 2 games. Anyone who underperforms in the last 2 games tells us we need to replace them so let’s CUT them immediately and start rebuilding! The definition of INSANITY is to come back next year with the same players and expect a different result from Last Place in the East…

In the almost-touchdown before the end of the first half, I thought White took a head shot from #8 (or 9) when he dropped the ball.

I think you are being too hard on the poor Ti-Cats. Remember, they were playing the Bombers yesterday. You can’t fault a team for losing to the Blue Bombers.

No sense for me to hide it - I am a long time Tiger Cat fan. I too am disappointed that they lost to the Bombers. Winnipeg played a good game - but Hamilton could have won this one with a few more caught balls and one less pass interference calls. The one in the end zone against Moxie (sp?) was a ridiculous call and it cost Hamilton the game. You didn’t need a slo-mo replay to see that it was the Bomber player who did the leaning in. Anyway, White dropped two key passes, but Mitchell was not on his game either. He underthrew so many passes, I was screaming at the TV set. I’m not sure how some of these guys appear to be so unprepared for an important game. Mitchell and his offence were lack-lustre - the defence played very well. Unless this team can pull a rabbit out of the hat - their season ended last night.

Yes you can and should fault them. Teams need to go into every game with a plan to win against their opponent. Every game 1 - 0. They had film, and knew the Bombers stong spots. The Cats did not execute.

As an Argo fan, I’m breathing a sigh of relief.

Insanity is to come back next year with Hervey as GM. He failed in BC, and brought that record to Hamilton. They need a Pinball or Kyle Walters with a good track record.

Yup. The Argos fight is now with the Redblacks to host the semi. OTOH , after last year’s East Final disaster, maybe the Argos would do better with a road playoff.

I wouldn’t be so negative, as of late Hamilton beat Toronto twice, Ottawa & BC, they were already done except for an amazing rebound late in the season.

Looked like a solid defensive play against moxie to me, like he jumped in front and knocked the ball down. Not sure how that’s pass interference…

Also 1 play doesn’t change the outcome when they lost by 3 touchdowns (21 points)

The Cats were finished by mid-season because the defence had too many holes, allowing other teams to move the ball while the offence was always slow to start each game. However, in the last few games the Cats have played entertaining football and (haha) won all three games against the Argos who could ironically be headed to the Grey Cup. I want to thank Bridges on offence, and Barlow on defence for their wonderful contribution to Tiger-Cat football.

Not to mention that he also got in the way of O’Leary-Orange preventing him from a sure touchdown just before the half. Hamilton was unable to punch it in and had to settle for a field goal which has been a problem for this team all year. A touchdown may have provided a spark at that point.

If it was the play with Whitehead you are referring to (in the end zone, late 3rd or early 4th quarter), that was one of those dumb football plays. The ball in the air for an eternity and the DB has to run into the receiver. Seen it happen a lot, always favours the offence. Because he for sure runs into home well before the ball gets there. That’s my perspective, trying to be as objective as a fan can be.

I went back again to look at the recap of this play - Moxey in my opinion played it well. He simply placed his body between the receiver and the ball. It was actually the receiver who was guilty of the body contact. At this point of the game there were still around 9 minutes left - this TD gave the Bombers a 21 point lead and put the game out of reach. It certainly was a poor call and it changed the whole complexion of the game for the Cats. Since the league thinks it is right to fine players for inappropriate play, maybe the same rules need to apply to refs who make really bad game changing calls???
