O'Leary: Vernon Adams Jr. a great reset for Stamps

We’re just under a month away from the holidays, but they’ve arrived early for the Calgary Stampeders.

Surprised Lions got so little for VA. Draft picks?

They were between a rock and a hard place. Not good place to be when having to unload a good player.

I’m sure Reggie Begelton, along with the other receivers are happy as pigs in you know what.

I’ll bet it has to do with the salary cap.

It’s going to take more than V.A. to turn that mess around. They still have the same head coach/gm who is the real problem.

I like Adam’s but he seems to be injured a lot

Bit surprised, too!

However, on second scan, its a real good trade for both teams. Cowpokes got Vern cuz they took on his contract - which means they’ll have to place Jake on waivers or re-neg Jake’s #1QB contract. No idea what they’ll do - but its one of the two options suggested.

BC got Rourke so VAJ had to be dispatched. Either let him go with zero return - but they got themselves a whole passel of draft class depth over the next 2 or 3 years. Doesn’t look like its worth trading VAJ but what else could they do.

Winnipeg imho should have made a play for VAJ - who knows how long Zach has before his game falls apart at the seams.

All I know is that Calgary got stronger in the short term, BC solidified their draft depth and the other western conf. teams were caught in the cross-fire.

Job well done for both Lions & Stampeder managements.

I think there is a possibility that Mair could end up in Winterpeg

Very true - Jake is not a particularly big individual (6’0" or 6’1") but he’s got large hands and can chuck a spiral a mile, when he’s on he can pick out WRs in cross patterns, too.
Obviously, O’Shea took a massive crap on Terry Wilson and Jake Doe was just issued a uniform to be an emergency sideline guy. Who knows about Streveler? If Streveler doesn’t return, Maier could be the guy (with a restructured contract obviously)

Strangely, can see Streveler backing up the #1 boy in either BC or Edmonton.

Arguably one the biggest remaining FA quarterback situations in the CFL is in Montreal. Does Danny Maciocia hand the reigns to young phenom, Davis Alexander? Or does he stick with his oft-injured incumbent Cody Fajardo? It’s likely that only one will be kept.

Then there’s Edmonton’s quarterback carousel which might offer up either a Shakespearian Actor or a hugely talented question mark to Free Agency. Will it be MacBeth or will it be Tre Ford behind center in 2025? Which one is to be or not to be?

Elk in a real quandry as not one of their QBs is the man going forward

True. We can expect to see some upheaval in that Elk’s bullpen. I can’t imagine them standing pat.

I am thinking the Elk also made a big play to get VAJ …perhaps VA might have had a ssy on where he eventually went to ???

While we’re on the topic @rider01.1 in your estimation which pending FA qb would be the best fit for the Riders? Would it be 38 year old Trevor Harris or someone else?

I think we’re stuck with Zach for one more year even though he’s not aging well. Unless our fearless GM Kyle Walters pulls a rabbit out of his tookus and signs someone he’s not talking about then we might be doomed just like all those other luckless cities who’ve hosted the Cup.

We are having to go with Harris. If that is good or bad I cannot say.
Riders were one of the lucky teams that won a Cup on home Feild

Adams is a good signing for Stampeders. He’s in his prime and ready to roll. I don’t think Maeir will want to stay in Calgary and when he leaves who will be back-up QB . Very unlikely Adams plays all 18 games with his injury history. Maeir is durable . He always answers the bell. Calgary should get rid of Tommie Stevens and bring in a real quarterback. Surely they can use a fullback behind centre for short yardage. It makes a lot of sense

Davis just got signed for 3 years. Don’t know the $$$ but Fajardo has a bonus due Jan 15 for 2 big ones. I’d heard Davis is Danny’s Boy & Jason leans to Cody. Maybe Cody is now up for grabs. I would hope they could land both. But, again, there weren’t a lot of landing spots for a starting QB with little experience.

Haven’t heard yet about Davis signing. I hope you’re right. I like Cody, always have, but Davis Alexander is just seems too promising to give up

“Davis Alexander, it just seems, is too promising to give up.”
