I don’t remember my impression of the entire movie, but the scene in Unbroken where he has to hold up the beam really got me.
I was honored to have two grandpas who fought in WW II. They instilled in me the horrors of war. They saw and experienced stuff that nobody should.
Any Lee Marvan war movie
Kelly's Heros
Fury
Enemy At The Gate
Saving Private Ryan
This list is in no particular order.
Loved that movie.
Fury was really good.
Also Inglorious Basterds, though I'd call it less of a war movie.

[/quotIt was a Damn Good movie regardless!
Some great movies mentioned.
I would also add Hacksaw Ridge.
My favourite by far:
Full Metal Jacket
Would also add:
Apocalypse Now
Inglorious Basterds
Dr. Strangelove (Cold War)
I thought it was ok but certainly not the next Saving Private Ryan, as the reviews when it came out made it out to be.
many good choices on this thread.
here's a few less popular ones that are all fantastic.
Anzio (Mitchum is beyond fantastic)
Memphis Belle (the best fortress bomber movie ever)
Downfall (the failed assassination attempt on hitler)
Thanks for this thread. I've seen 99% of what has been mentioned, but there are a few rec's on here I haven't heard before.
I mentioned Downfall earlier . It was on my top # 10 list . It is actually not about a failed assassination attempt but about his final days in the Fuhrerbunker with his aids and generals while the allies are closing in on Berlin in the final days of the war .
I'm thinking that the movie you are perhaps talking about is Valkyrie which depicts the plotting and planning of a failed assassination attempt on Hitler by placing a suitcase bomb under the table at one of his conferences .
Both movies were well done and worthy to be mentioned in this thread .
crap. you are correct bobo.
got my two movies mixed up. Downfall is also awesome....not sure how accurate the info is as there are so many stories on the last days, but it is a great movie.
Just got my wires crossed.
A couple other ones popped into my head...I've seen 100+ war based movies.
Hurricane (2018) Mission of Honor (2018) - IMDb (Polish pilots joining the RAF to defend Britain on the Battle of Britain).
Best film on Hitler planning the concentration camps (and also maybe the most educational - it's fucked and I've read, very accurate): Conspiracy (2001) Conspiracy (TV Movie 2001) - IMDb
i haven't seen sgt york..but the rest of that list is fantastic. Some real classics.
Dammit forgot about inglorious bastards... What a freaking great war movie
Downfall was a great movie.... So many well done littleknowns.
The Wild Geese
Best Wartime Comedy in this Century: Jo Jo Rabbit.
Best Wartime Comedy in the last Century: Duck Soup
Best Wartime tear jerker ever: Life is Beautiful.
keep the suggestions coming.
grabbing the wild geese, merry chirstmas mr lawrence, and by dawns early light, three of the movies from this thread I haven't seen.
some other from my archive....
Danger Close, The Battle of Long Tan (an Aussie Vietnam movie)
Night will Fall (similar to Come and See, extremely difficult WW2 movie)
If you want to get really "real", have a watch of German Concentration Camps Factual Survey, a British Documentary with real footage.
Casualties of War is pretty messed up. Based on real life when some US soldiers take a young Vietnamese woman as a sex slave.
Lone Survivor is one of the best Afghanistan based movies, starring Mark Wahlberg. Another true story about a group of Navy Seals.
As more jump out in my foggy memory I'll try and detail some of the best lesser known movies.
Surprised no one has mentioned Platoon.
