REGINA – The Saskatchewan Roughriders’ elation over their 37-34 CFL victory over the Calgary Stampeders was tempered by the news that veteran centre Jeremy O’Day is gone for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

"It has been an unbelievable year,‘’ Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman said at Mosaic Stadium, lamenting the team’s string of injuries.

There is some good news on the injury front. Tailback Wes Cates, who has gained 1,055 yards along the ground this season, is expected to return Thanksgiving Day in Calgary after missing two games with a lower leg injury.

Although the Roughriders’ injury list has swelled to about 20 players, Saskatchewan cooled off the red-hot Stampeders on Friday while moving into a first-place tie in the West Division with Calgary and the B.C. Lions.

"It is a credit to the character of the men in the locker room,‘’ head coach Ken Miller said. "They believed that they could win regardless of the circumstances and tonight they were able to do it.‘’

Now it appears there is a chance he could return for the West Division final, should the Roughriders qualify for that game.
