YOU may not care, but the guy who has to fit in all the Ticat names on the Grey Cup sure is happy he has the Smith’s x3 and Brown’s x3 vs a few Barrenechea’s and Rwabukamba’s :rockin:
Larry Davis was on the team with both those guys in 2003. And between 2007 and 2009, there were Anthony, Jerome, Chris and Gerald Davis, but never more than two at a time. I’m not counting players brought into camp here, because I’d have no clue. Did I miss any?
In another thread, there was a discussion about the lack of depth that we have on the D line, and how Albert Smith, who weighs over 280 lbs, would be moved to DE if a DE got injured during a game. Now maybe it won’t be necessary to move Smith from DT to DE if Hickman or Baggs got injured.
So we have one less NI receiver. But it might have been worth it to give up NI receiver depth to get depth on the front four. And didn’t we usually only have three NI receivers in the lineup for many games last year?
And could that be another reason Kohlert was released?
Anyway, I would like to see what our depth chart will look like. It should be posted soon.
With the line-up changes that have occurred since the final cutdown -- Ivan Brown and Kyle Jones added to the Active Roster, Simmons being chosen to start ahead of B. Johnson, Stephenson injured and Kohlert released -- the 3 Reserve Imports for July 1 will be Chris Williams and Terry Grant for sure, and probably Belton Johnson. The Non-Import sitting out will either Jones or Jonathon Hood.
I recall reading an article dealing with a similar situation involving the TC’s but in reverse (I believe it was the Lions who were the “poachers”), that even though this type of activity is within the league rules, apparently there is (I guess now “was”) a “gentlemen’s” agreement among the clubs that they wouldn’t claim players on other teams’ PRs.
Never used to happen. League GMs abided by a an unwritten "gentlemens' agreement". Popp was the one that ruined that and now it's almost routine. You reap what you sow.
If there was any type of gentlemen’s agreement about not claiming player from other teams’ PRs there would be hell to pay with the CFLPA because that type of agreement would restrict a player’s ability to play.
The only gentlemen’s agreement I’ve ever heard of is GMs agreeing not to claim players who were released because they wanted to go back to school.
Right you are and wrong I was a couple of posts ahead of you when I typed the wrong Michael – Carter, the NIP DB, when it should have been Grant, the IMP DB.
I'm glade to see Kohlert stay he reminded me of Chris Getzlaf who we traded to Sask and who has become a premiere hard nose receiver in the CFL.
