NOTHING LEFT IN FA --- LET'S TALK DRAFT+CAP CUTS

FA is over in my opinion so we now have to wait and see what cap cuts bring in March, April and May, i am confident in Macks choice and i am sure we can scoop up some pretty darn good cap cuts plus Macks ability/eye for TC talent South of the border.

There still could be some trades happening before the draft, i can see Mack picking up a pick or 2, we'll soon see.

DRAFT TALK

I like the idea of drafting OL Mitchell in the 1ST RD as he appears to be one of the few willing to stick in the CFL and possibly be ready in time for this season but scouting the prospects over the past few months here are my dark horses and wasted picks, IMO, share your thoughts.

NI Receiever ---- Seems Parker is still high on the list (for now) and combine will determine what he is made of, in the Vanier he could not catch a cold but he still has size and talent, i alway's liked Nathan Coehoorn big/fast kid (6'2, 220) with very good hands will be a steal for whoever picks him. Marco Iannuzzi is another kid who stands out, could be a late pick for us and i would be happy with him ........ My dark horse is a kid i watched alot last season and he may be able to be drafted, i don't know if he is ready to step in yet but could be a LATE PICK steal Liam Mahoney, a Concordia kid with good speed and good hands is very similar to Watson (another Concord) ..... All in all i can see us stealing a NI receiver in the draft, i doubt it will be either Dino though.

OL ---- Tons of talent and Mitchell seems like a sure pick (so far), Pascal Baillargeon has played great for Laval and his stock is rising would be a great grab, but unless we get another late 1ST or Early second pick i doubt we can get him, but IMO he is underrated in the prospect page and he seems ready to step right in as well ..... the rest of the OL picks are all quality so picking one up in a late round as well would be just fine ...... My dark Horse is Michael Knill, big boy at 6'6, 350 with great feet from what i see could be a steal.

DL/DT ---- I suspect that Donny O may just be Browns replacement when he decides to hang them up, but i really enjoyed watching Renaldo Sagesse in michigan when i went down there, but he will be a high pick but a darn good one, Gregory Alexandre is my dark horse, this kid could be a steal. Mathieu Boulay could be another late pick and i decent one at that. The DL position is strong at this years draft, so i will say that Turner and Fortin can be late RD steals as well.

RB ---- One name Matt Walter, big boy and good speed, good buddies with Woodson (our 2010 pick), he will go too high for us but you never know i suppose, would be a steal.

CB/DB ---- Best of the buch to date seems to be Henoc Muamba, rated high and rightfully so, great speed and coverage, a steal of a pick could very well be CB Shane Herbert, LB and Bison/Winnipeg Born Thomas Hall and MY DARK horse John Surla, who reminds me of Emry.

That's my take, which can and most likely change before draft day based on the E-Camp ETC. .... There is no doubt that there is alot of talent on the OL and DL, so anything is possible there

The big guy listed as the top overall prospecton cfl.ca prospect central, Philip Blake out of Baylor is a centre and we could use a centre, however it doesn't look like he's coming up to ecamp which would suggest he probably has another year of NCAA eligibility and not like to be in a CFL camp right away. After that Mitchell is probably the best way to go. I don't think we have our 2nd round pick. If we can get an extra first rounder or get back into the 2nd round and, if some chance he was available but HIGHLY unlikely, Sagesse would be awesome I think. Anthony woodson, picked in 2010, has had big time injuries on 2009 and 2010 and that makes him a ?, a RB might be targeted with a later pick. You have Surla at CB but he's listed at LB. Seems like he would be a good special teamer.

Any CFL team that gets Blake would likely turn him into a tackle.

Of the top olinemen, I belive only Mitchell & Petrus are seniors, the rest still have a year of school, odds are if we don't trade down for more picks or somesuch deal, we take Mitchell.

Ticats cuts coming soon:
Otis Floyd IMP LB
DeAndra Cobb IMP RB

no interest by the blue and gold im sure. we got reid… and floyd well, i dont think the fanbase would cheer for that d-bag even if he was a bomber… id suspect mlb comes down to… rico mccoy, merril johson and maybe another guy mack brings in via ncaa or whatever

as for the draft…i think mitchell is an option, i also agree with u bluengold about the receiving prospect… i think at this point, id consider taking a guy like jade etiene even over parker… parker looked lost when i saw him play this year… great athlete but really not that great of a football player… nathan tho, he definately impresses me, 6’2 220… means he should be game ready… i think if we get another pick… we take him aswell, right now tho 3 picks in the top 30 or so isnt too bad but we need to see if we can add a couple via trade… maybe ralph january or inglis or cvetkovic could net us an additional 2 or 3 picks. Not sure, im sure the bombers will expore all avenues.

right now tho as way things stand…

i think we take mitchel aswell, with our 3rd rounder i think we look at a receiver unless a guy like matt o’donnel falls to the third round, seems every year there is a player or 2 who is projected by forde to go super high but then falls quickly… morencie fell to the 3rd round a few years ago, forde had him ranked 2 or 3. behind rotier and legare.

bombers non import needs tho… oline and receiver and linebacker so right now id say these are the positions we will be looking at. henoc muamba or whatever his name is a solid prospect aswell and he may get a look too but 3 picks right now is an issue… we should have the 9th pick but kelly moved that one to calgary for lenny walls. sask took our other picks aswell in the bowman deal… both guys no longer with the team. mike kelly, liked the guy, was nice and honest… but man he sure screwed us over abit this year.

Corrected again by Wolverine, sorry must be the 14 hour work days wrecking my brain … In fact the CB/DB player’s i mentioned are ALL LB’ers … I am sure i just made a mistake and meant to put LB but had a brain cramp.

Okay CB/DB SHOULD read LB, my mistake… I am not even going to mention P/K because i Highly doubt we even look in that direction, CB/DB picks are very slim and usually filled by imports BUT if i were to pick a NI CB/DB my picks would be (and of course they would start as ST player’s IMO):

CB/DB — I can only name 2 player’s that i have seen, Shane Herbert who would be a great ST player and possibly a starter in 2-3 years, may be good enough to back up after one year, has played safety and i’ve seen him hit HARD … jury is still out on him but he should go late and may be worth a late pick … Only other player I have seen is James Savoie, liked what i saw (which was very little) he seemed to be in place all the time other than that i cannot say to much about him, a little on the small side (5’9, 185) but is pretty fast from what i could see, my pick would be Herbert though, but IMO i cannot see either going higher than the final 2 rounds IF AT ALL.

LB — Muamba seems to be the best LB in the draft and is rated quite high, will he drop by the time we pick again? time will tell, he is a very good LB and would be a great addition to any club … Hall and Surla are both LB as well, Hall is a Winnipeg boy and will go pretty late, if at all so he might be a steal after the draft, as good as he has played for the Bisons, he is still 1-2 full years away from even being considered a starter, Winnipeg kid on ST though? just maybe … I picked Surla as my dark horse because i have seen him play a few times, he plays with an edge, tackles very well and is pretty big in size and he can/will only get bigger or smaller depending on where a team wants him to start (Will, OLB, MLB) he has MLB speed and size (5’11, 230) and as mentioned reminds me of Emry (the way he plays) doesn’t miss many tackles, is in place most of the time and plays with an edge.

1....Got to say Mitchell is a priority ..draft him as NO 1...IF we feel he can step in right away
2...Looking at how many picks Cal. has, I wonder if we could do a deal with them for our first over all pick...They would still have a pick in each of the first few critical rounds while WE take their pick in the first round and second round and we have one in the third anyway...I guess this would depend on how big of a priority the first pic is to both teams...Something to ponder

Is there a place where we can see who has how many picks and which ones?

…yes…i found it the other day but damned if i can re-trace my steps and come up with it…sorry bluengold…maybe someone else has a handle on it

This is all I can find on the Draft.

Thanks Backer ---- CGY seems to be loaded in the first 2 rounds (1 1st rd and 3 2nd rds) hmmmm …

…what da ya say we trade no. 1 over all for Cals. 6th PLUS EITHER the 9th. or 11th…That way we get a pic in each of the first 3 rounds …

Does anyone remember which picks Toronto got from Saskatchewan for the #1 pick last year? That could be used to set the bar for a similar trade this year.

OT - Joe Eppele

…can’t remember jordan…i do recall the riders going after Shamori Williams…but can’t say what they gave up to get him…A lot of rider fans aren’t too happy with Williams’ play in his first year…considering what they gave up in pics…So goes the draft

After looking at that link.....it looks like Toronto gave up the #1 and #8 overall picks for #2, #4, and Jamie Boreham. Im still not entirely sure though.

Here’s a link to the CFL draft page that has the entire draft order as it stands now:
http://www.cfl.ca/canadian_draft/list?year=2011

We have 3 picks - 1st round (1st), 3rd round (17th) and 4th round (24th).

That’s right.
