This is an absolute joke. Overspend every year and we reward you with an extra early round pick. It should be telling them something that the same two teams are getting this two years in a row. If you want better parity, give it to the two worst teams in the league and don’t make it territorial.

Same league that has a cap but lets teams flout that cap with marketing money. Absurd.

Le choix territorial dans la CFL a été rétabli de 2019 à 2023 pour les deux clubs qui avaient les pires fiches.
Depuis 2024, ses deux (2) choix territoriaux sont attribués aux deux (2) clubs ayant utilisés le plus de joueurs N de façon régulière durant la saison précédente.
L’ancien règlement permettait aux deux clubs avec les pires fiches d’avoir l’opportunité d’améliorer leur talent N avec ses deux (2) choix territoriaux et je considère que ce règlement devrait être remis en vigueur afin de viser une meilleure parité dans la ligue,

Un dossier à suivre l’audit du plafond salarial pour les clubs en 2024 et en particulier celui de BC qui pourrait possiblement excéder de 300,000$ le plafond salarial ce qui représenterait la perte d’un premier choix au repêchage et un deuxième choix au repêchage.
Le dernier club qui a perdu un premier choix au repêchage pour avoir excédé le plafond salarial est les Alouettes en 2007 avec un montant de 108,285$ sur un plafond salarial de 4,05$M. La fiche des Alouettes en 2007 est 8-10, 3ieme dans l’Est et ont perdu en demi-finale 24-22 contre Winnipeg, qui jouait alors dans la division Est.
L’histoire de BC en 2024 est similaire, fiche 9-9, 3ieme dans la division Ouest et défaite en demi-finale contre Saskatchewan 28-19.
Les deux clubs qui ont dépassé le plafond salarial en 2007 et 2024 n’ont pas obtenu les résultats espérés.

Quand à moi " cette permission de dépasser le cap salarial " qui peut résulter en la perte d’un choix au repêchage si le dépassement est excessif selon la norme établie, est une véritable farce.
Si un club vise la coupe, on s’attend que le dit club est déjà bien pourvu en joueurs de talent, alors que représente la perte d’un choix au repêchage pour ce club qui ira chercher davantage de talent pour arriver à ses fins quitte à dépasser le cap. “Anyway” si il ne gagne pas la coupe avec tous les moyens qu’ils auront déployer pour se doter d’un club dominant, tout ce qu’il perdront au final est un choix certes de première ronde, mais loin d’être le premier over all.
Vivement un nouveau commissaire moins permissif en la matière.

Dans le cas de BC, l’on mentionne un dépassement d’environ 300,000$ sur le plafond salarial mais ceci ne tient pas compte des montants pour marketing……un point de réflexion pour le prochain commissaire.
La notion de pénalité pour dépassement du plafond salarial existe dans d’autres sports en Amérique, par exemple:
NFL: amende, perte de choix au repêchage, annulation de contrat
NBA: « luxury tax »
LNH: amende, perte de choix de repêchage, annulation de contrat , sauf que les salaires des joueurs inscrits sur la liste des blessés à long terme ont un impact « positif » sur le plafond salarial.
Ainsi la CFL s’inscrit dans l’approche actuelle des autres ligues au niveau du dépassement du plafond salarial, avec son système de pénalité. Quel sera l’avenir pour ce point?

Jocko, the extra picks have zero to do with the salary cap. They get the extra picks because they had the highest number of nationals on the field for each snap during the season. They would have received these extra picks even if they were under the cap. BC may actually lose 2 draft picks because they may be more than $300K over the cap.

Oh I am well aware. But my point is that they aren’t as disconnected from the salary cap as you posit. My point is that teams are effectively buying an extra draft pick by spending more than they are allowed to. So yeah, BC may lose two drafts picks for grossly surpassing the cap but they will also be rewarded with a second round pick for playing the most Canadians. So really they would only be losing one pick. That is how the cap and the extra draft picks are linked. I would also say in BC’s case, if they lose two picks, they will be the first team to have that happen. $300,000 over a cap isn’t a rounding error. The team went for broke with Rourke and Betts. Great that they are playing more Canadians but shattering the salary cap (don’t get me started on their marketing money…) shouldn’t be rewarded with an “extra” pick that came because they flouted the rules. Sorry dude.

Bottom line: if you go over the cap by any amount, IN NO WAY should you be rewarded in other areas. I don’t care how many nationals you play. Go over the cap, no extra picks.

It was negotiated in the CBA. All teams and the CFLPA agreed to it.
“The league’s negotiation committee has been led by Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ chief executive officer and minority owner Scott Mitchell and Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ president Wade Miller. Retired linebacker Solomon Elimimian serves as president of the CFLPA, with Brian Ramsay as executive director.”
The fact that Winnipeg had someone “on the inside” and they are benefiting from the rule is pure coincidence

I maintain that if you want parity, those picks should go to the teams that played the fewest Canadians. I’d also be happy if they just scrapped it altogether.

Some teams might play the fewest Canadians by design. Say for an example you get a coach that has a bias against Canadians which I acknowledge has never happened previously in the CFL. But let’s say that it could potentially happen. Then you get the odd Canadian that might not get enough playing time or develop at the rate that he should.
Another scenario would be violating the ratio rules and then winning more draft picks because of it.

My view would be that you can earn an extra pick in later rounds for starting more than a certain number of nationals for a certain percentage of the plays HOWEVER, no team should be allowed to pick up extra picks if they have violated the cap by even a very small amount. The way that I would like to see the cap enforced is not only by losing picks and a fine is:
1.) Violating team has their cap reduced for the upcoming season by the amount that they exceeded the cap.
2.) They lose draft picks as they do now.
3.) The teams that meet the cap are allowed to exceed the cap by the amount of the most flagrant violator.
This would greatly encourage all teams to comply and not try to buy a cup. For example, 2025 would reduce BC’s cap space by $300K and increase everyone else’s by $300K giving all compliant teams $600K extra to sign players. This would have to be calculated prior to free agency. Teams would really make sure to adhere to the cap.

Résultats du pro day, de l’université BC où il y avait, entre autres, Isaiah Knight demi offensif des Thunderbirds, 6´ 211 livres, 40 verges 4,76, en 37 parties, il a couru 561 fois, pour 3,603 verges, moyenne de 6,4 verges/course et 21 touchés.
Du 21 au 23 mars, CFL Combine à Regina, beaucoup d’action à venir en vue du repêchage de la CFL, le 29 avril à 20h et en avant-midi la même journée, à 11h, repêchage Global de la CFL.

Most likely not going to happen because the cap is collectively bargained but it’s similar to my idea of increasing the cap for every team based on how well they did during the regular season.
Based on last year if the average went up 10%: Calgary 14% Edmonton 13% Hamilton 13% BC 11% Saskatchewan 10% Ottawa 10% Montreal 8% Winnipeg 6% Toronto 5%
Un article du 11/03 de E. Leblanc de RDS, sur Kristian Matte qui après sa retraite, aurait apprécié être entraîneur avec les Alouettes mais comme la « porte » ne s’ouvrait pas, s’est vu offrir un poste avec les Lions comme entraîneur des porteurs de ballon, une nouvelle carrière, un nouveau départ.

Après une carrière de 2010 à 2024 avec les Alouettes, gagnant de 2 Coupes Grey 2010-2024, équipe d’étoiles de l’Est 2019-2021, il aurait été intéressant que le club embauche ce joueur natif de Montréal comme entraîneur.
Félicitations pour ton premier poste d’entraîneur et bon succès Kristian Matte.
