:als_red: Non-Alouettes CFL Talk

Found a number of old posts on social media (Instagram, Reddit) suggesting that Dave Naylor detailed Stubblefield’s 3-year contract as being worth $500K. No idea where this info comes from as his tweet doesn’t appear to have been edited. Might be another case of censored numbers on TSN.

Also, a fun fact I found while searching: his father runs a family food business that produces BBQ sauces available in various grocery stores in Canada such as Loblaws and Walmart.

Is that Stubbs? It’s good stuff!

Yep, Stubb’s. Coincidentally, I’m currently watching a press conference from a couple days ago where he talks about it (from 6:15).

That’s fun, except of course for my boycott on buying anything American until sanity returns.

I’m afraid you might have to wait 4 years.

Eugene Lewis discussing how his free agency played out.

Geno Lewis??? Never heard of him.

Oftentimes, when I post a link to an interview, I’m torn between posting a recap or not. If I do, then I know a lot of people will be satisfied with that and won’t click, while others won’t get the same enjoyment from discovering what the person had to say on their own. But if I don’t, I also know a lot of people still won’t bother clicking, and they won’t know why I actually posted the link.

That said, I found Lewis’s statement about Ed Hervey interesting, and obviously I’m not the only one since 3DN posted an article about it a few hours ago. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was. Hervey should have at least called Lewis. That would have been classy. And I for one appreciate the summary as it gives you an option, depending how busy you are so thanks for that!

I’m with Geno. Hervey being a jackass as usual. We get it, you won’t pay any receiver $300k, but to go on and on about it in the media when Lewis wasn’t asking for $300k on this contract and Hervey never even contacted him in the first place is weird and (to use Geno’s word) degrading.

Lewis got paid on his last contract because that’s what the market gave him. And good for him. These guys don’t have a lot of time to make their CFL coin.

Looks like Hervey’s manners have not improved a bit, his claim that he did not reach out to Eugene because he didn’t want to insult him with an offer 100k less than he was making, it makes no sense, proven by the fact that he ended up signing in Ottawa for 100k more or less than he made last year. Since the Chris Jones Grey Cup, Ed’s record is somewhat less than flattering. While he bought himself half a team last week, this attitude won’t get him very far.

Half of those players will be gone next year, because he won’t be able to afford them.

Le nouveau joueur le mieux payé en 2025 autre qu’un qa……un receveur de Hamilton.

He is buying time and trying to put butts back in the stands. I like the guys he signed and he was consistent in his statements by not emptying the bank for Lawler.
Really his fortunes all depend on Ford and Fajardo.

Didn’t realize Hamilton threw that much cash at Lawler. Wow. They are spending a fortune at receiver between him and White. I know they have some wiggle room with Bo taking a discount to stay and Powell not in a position to command big money, but I still wonder about how they are allocating their cap dollars.

Yeah, I won’t be shocked to see Tim White not make it out of TC. Either that or it will come at the expense of their defence.

Yep. And even if they do cut White, I question the wisdom of spending $277k with incentives leading up to $300k on a 30-year-old receiver coming off an injury-shortened 2024, when offence was really not Hamilton’s issue last season.

But Goveia openly says he thinks the Cats can win now, so he’s spending like it.

It is dumb. They have White (who always starts slow or badly) and Bridges, you don’t need three top receivers on a team, in fact it usually leads to problems. Toronto has won by having the best O and D lines in the league. Not the best receiving core.

Yep. But they’re basically an expansion team this year as far as cohesion goes. Tons of new players, all-new coaching staff, new head coach and coordinators at every position. I suspect it will take 4-6 games for them to start to gel as a unit, but until then, there will be a lot of positional mistakes and penalties.
