:als_red: Non-Alouettes CFL Talk

My head is spinning with all these moves. I’ll have to learn the league all over again. There will certainly be parity in the East.

I have to admit though that I would have liked to see an Als splash signing at defensive line - a Brinkman or Ceresna type. But I guess not to be.

Probably why we didn’t go after Jason Hogan

Wow Winnipeg loses another key piece of their roster.

Yeah me too Sheldon. But I guess with so many 3-4 fronts that it just isn’t a position the team wants to invest in. I won’t be surprised to see us bring Wynn back, at a team friendly $ figure.

It’s possible, but Herb intimated that the team is ready to move on from Wynn. With Archibald on board, I can’t see a place for Wynn anymore. He’d be strictly a rotation guy, but a younger, versatile guy like Moultrie can do the same job in the rotation on an entry-level contract.

Yeah that is true. Forgot about Archibald. That was a really flood and sneaky quiet signing. He just started to break out with B.C. last year.

Une mise à jour J. Hodge dans 3DownNation, sur les plus et moins de chaque équipe au niveau des agents libres potentiels du 2 au 4 février.

Pour les Alouettes, il manque A. Auclair au
niveau des plus.

Is Auclair official? I haven’t seen that yet. Hodge also missed that when healthy, we started both Philpot and KJG.

Nothing official on Auclair yet.

Merci de la correction, trop d’enthousiasme pour cette possible acquisition, à suivre….

Good for him, had some bad luck. Hope he sticks.

Looks like a desperation signing from Winnipeg after Lawler’s departure. I was rooting for Reggie last year but he is a shadow of the player he was pre-injury. He doesn’t have the ability to get separation anymore, and he’s not a good enough route-runner to make up for it.

He did have that game with two TDs, but I agree, he isn’t the same player. That was a long time being out.

Yep. And one of those TDs was a “scheme” TD if I recall correctly. We ran him in motion on one and caught the other team napping with a linebacker in chase position near the red zone. The other one was a nice play where he came back to the ball. But he was pretty useless from outside the 30 most of the time. The lower-body strength and speed to plant and come out of a route just isn’t there. There’s a reason he ended the season on the PR.

Maybe being in Winnipeg will fire him up. I’d love to see it. He seems like a likeable guy.

There was a discussion between Lalji and Naylor on TSN about the numbers on Eugene Lewis’s contract offers, and it was edited out later (you can hear the cut at 1:35). If I recall correctly, Naylor said Eugene Lewis will get $235K in his first year in Ottawa, and that he turned down a 1-year, $250K offer from Calgary.

Calgary seems to be in trouble. Apart from the trade to land Vernon Adams, they’re just signing scrapheap players (Rhymes and Antwi) and even scrapheap coaches (Barron Miles and nepo brother Craig as STC). They were in the running for both Lawler and Lewis but lost out. They’ve lost guys like Stevens, Shiltz, and Rose.

We’ll see what their roster looks like at training camp, but I don’t see any indication that they will get back in the playoff hunt. Vernon can’t throw to himself and a defence without playmakers coached by Bob Slowik scares no one.
