3downnation opined that the Edmonton offensive line should get the laurels this week. Of course the difficulty the defence has to stop TF plays a big part.
People need to understand the rules. It does not matter how he was blocked. It isn’t about intention it is about the contact. Of course it wasn’t intentional but the penalty applies and it should have been called on the field. That’s like saying he didn’t intend to stick his fingers in his face mask, probably not but it is a penalty none the less. And if you rewatch it he avoided the cut block and dove in Crums shins. This was the proper call.
Vercheval is a Dinosaur and he’s been mailing it in. Unless you enjoy his food comedy. The rules are explicit, Opponent can not make contact with a QB above the shoulders or below the knees. This cut block is fantasy. OL makes contact with Defender right at the hip and defender launches himself into the QB.
Oh I understand the rule. It is just that it is inconsistent. On a kick, if you are pushed into within five-yards of the returner it isn’t a penalty. Different rules, I know, but the same impact. I get and support the idea of protecting QBs, but if a running back (it wasn’t an OLman in this case) cut blocks you and causes you to go flying into the QB below the knee I am not sure how a player avoids that. So yeah, is that the rule, yes. Is it right? Not IMHO. Same concept with when a QB ducks at the last second to try to avoid a sack or a hit. Next to impossible for a player running full out to make a last nanosecond adjustment to his approach angle.
He is a significant upgrade over the TSN crew. I like Duane Forde, and Henoc is doing well, the rest of the crew struggles to get a coherent sentence out.
