:als_red: Non-Alouettes CFL Talk

Uguak is the guy I’m praying we get back. Sutherland plays a position where we’re loaded, and we have effectively replaced Mack in combined production as well as role (Philpot is now the #1 guy). Also, Mack returning would force some impossible choices on us when Snead and KJG are healthy.

I don’t think we can count on Richards at all. I don’t see how the team can offer him a contract. This is the third year, he will have spent more time on the six game than playing. Getting Sutherland might actually motivate Maciocia to focus his draft efforts on Offensive linesmen…

If he can play, Thorpe will make him part of the rotation, like he is doing with Cantin-Arku.

I agree that Richards’s time with us might be coming to an end. The amount of time he’s spent on the 6-game is getting to be untenable. But even without Richards, where do you play Sutherland? We have all-stars at Will, Mike, and safety, and Cantin-Arku has done very well in 3-4 alignments. I suppose you could platoon GCA and Sutherland but making two first-round picks split reps isn’t desirable in the long term.

Nathan Rourke have been cut

I would call if he wants to return in the CFL

Avant ou apres les Elks, Bombers, Argos, Cats …

We disrupt our entire quarterback structure for Rourke? No. Makes no sense to me. Fajardo is our starter, and now it certainly looks like Davis Alexander is the QB of the future. Both QBs know our offence and are trusted by the team. Cutting guys just because a new shiny becomes available doesn’t breed trust and it doesn’t encourage free agents to sign here.

I am very curious what happens next for Rourke. He’s still young but it feels like his window down there is closing. He hasn’t been given a real shot, it looks like, but that’s the NFL for you. If I were Toronto, I’d make a serious play for him and be done with the gift that keeps giving in Kelly.

Because you’re getting the best player in the league ? Kansas City had Alex Smith who was a good QB but they didn’t shy away to bring Patrick Mahomes. Free agents gonna wants to play with Rourke

NFL isn’t the same as CFL and putting Rourke, who hasn’t proven much yet, in the same breath as Patrick Mahomes, is a huge stretch.

You sign Rourke, you immediately have to cut Fajardo for cap reasons. Would you do that the year after Fajardo helped bring us a Grey Cup? I wouldn’t.

Rourke will certainly attract CFL interest, but not from every team, and anyway it may well be moot if he tries to catch on with another NFL team.

Yes would be the Mahomes of the CFL… He was dominating the league like no other QB have done in the past 5 years when he was only 24… the other you were saying to be patient with Evans because he was only 26.

If Rouke wants to sign him ? I’m cutting/trading Fajardo and I’m even driving him to the airport. I respect Fajardo for what he did but if the Superstar U30 QB that’s gonna make me contender for the 8 years wants to sign here, it’s a no brainer

LOL. Rourke had half a great season two years ago and didn’t even get his team to the Grey Cup game, but he’s suddenly the best player in the league? That’s pure hyperbole and not based on any robust evidence, so if that’s the lynchpin of your argument, it falls to the ground.

(Have zero idea how Evans is relevant to this conversation. I have never said I think Caleb Evans is the best player in the CFL.)

I know your wish is to sign every big-name player who might be available in free agency. But in the actual world of the CFL, you build a winner by building a team. Not by cutting your Grey Cup MVP the year after he leads you to a championship, in a season where he has stepped up and elevated himself into the upper echelon of the league’s quarterbacks. No sane GM would do that.

Edmonton cela serait surprenant à mes yeux.

I think it will be moot because Rourke will try his best to catch on with another NFL team for 2024. In 2025, who knows?

Great QB, HOF potential but he’s going to want 600k and someone will give it to him. or there about. The only purpose to get in this bidding war is to drive up the price for another team.

My comment was tongue in cheek.
I do not expect the Als to be in on Rourke.

Might be a bit rash to throw everything away for a QB who’s great year consisted of only 10 games. There’s been a ton of one year wonders, and perhaps him not cracking an NFL roster are signs that he isn’t as great as everyone thinks he is. Great QBs prove it year after year, sure he had a great year, but can he do it again and again and again? You would expect that of him if you’re going to gut your team to be able to afford him.
