There is zero chance we will see an experienced OC here with Popp as a HC and Thorpe as the heir to be. If Popp can’t build a staff, they need to find someone who will.

As my mother told m when I was young: Chiu, Chui, Chui

Not really but if they can’t come to an agreement that makes sense. Then they should hire a Head Coach. This will give them a year to talk and negotiate.

No loss for the Als with either one of them.

Does somebody in the Als organization have a problem with simple math ?

MontrealAlouettes.com

MONTREAL - The Alouettes announced on Wednesday that defensive coordinator Noel Thorpe and offensive assistant Ryan Dinwiddie have both agreed to two-year contract extensions with the club, keeping the two coaches with the Alouettes until the 2015 season.

What's your problem? 2014 and 2015 are two CFL seasons.

Richard

[i]He made a mistake. No harm done. What’s YOUR problem?

Field this question Richard. Johnny vaguely remembers you saying you were a VP of finance. Why then, is there no one with your name with that title on Linkedin?

Also, why do you keep protecting Deslauriers in your mock Ottawa draft? really?! You would protect and waste a spot on a 30 year old plus receiver who can’t catch and is weak on special teams? A guy who is useless… Is Deslauriers your nephew?

You are also the only ONE. THE ONLY ONE who has been defending , and rooting for Popp to be head coach in 2014. That is insane!

Come clean dude! Are you a shill for the Als?

I don’t get why people are getting in Richard’s face so much about some of these things. Now, I’ll let Richard speak for himself, but I’m pretty sure he’s just stating what he believes will happen with the expansion draft and the head coaching position, and he’s got a pretty good record when it comes to predicting things.

And this is just my two cents, but I do find that Jim Popp is being overly vilified. Honestly, we have a team full of talented players, and if we can get a decent OC, I don’t see the issue with Popp being head coach. I’ll back up my optimism with a friendly wager, if anyone wants. I’m certain that we’ll be over the .500 mark next season.

Richard… I am surprised that someone who has to fight with the team to get the depth chart on time on a weekly basis has an issue with me pointing out the poor quality of the Alouettes communications. “Until the 2015 season” does not equal two extra years or even one extra year.

I am one of the biggest backers of Jim Popp on here. I support him as a HC (at my peril)
My issue is with his lack of willingness to commit to the team. It is awesome that he filled in for Hawkins with no extra pay for a year, he didn’t have to do that and he should be compensated for the sacrifice and extra work load but sign a proper contract for the good of the team and the owner who’s generosity “made him”.

Jim Popp is not a head coach. If it were that easy to be HC – if all you needed were good assistants – it wouldn’t such a difficult position to fill. My number-one gripe with Popp as HC is his inability / unwillingness to be an effective supervisor. He’s too tuned out of the Xs and Os side of the game, to the point where he cannot make effective in-game adjustments. You look at guys like Austin, Hufnagel, and Chamblin, and they all come from pro coaching backgrounds; as such, they understand the nuances of the game and how to modify gameplans when things aren’t going their way. We were routinely outcoached in many games this year, and embarrassed when it came to halftime adjustments.

This is why Jim Popp should not be a head coach.

Agree with you DP on this front.

Exactly. I'm not a fan of Popp as HC, but if he committed to the team in the long term, I could live with it, especially if Thorpe is being groomed to replace him. But him wanting to be HC but not wanting to sign a long-term contract extension? Unacceptable. As I've said before: Jim, if you want that NFL job so badly, quit your job here with the Als and go pursue it. But don't blame W&W for wanting to make sure you don't up and leave us in the lurch. Losing the GM is bad enough. Losing both your GM and your HC in a transitional time? Could be catastrophic. I applaud W&W for standing firm on this issue. It's about time someone in the organization stood up to Popp and reminded him that he is not bigger than this franchise...

This idea that all CFL teams would be in line to hire Jim, I don't buy unless he's willing to take a massive pay cut in many cases. The only guy who's ever paid anything close to what Jim is making is Braley to Wally Buono who is the greatest coach in the history of the league and did both jobs well. You think Hopson is going to pay Popp more than he's making himself ? The cash strapped Bombers maybe ? The Argos living on a prayer and the good will of Mr. Braley ?

Don't think so Jim!

I hope the Als stand their ground or initiate their transition plan.
