Nine Canadian stadiums listed in North American World Cup bid...not Hamilton

From today's Globe and Mail....

As a former Hamiltonian, I am outraged....but not surprised.

Winnipeg didn't get chosen either.

The stupid part is that THF was built as a soccer stadium to FIFA standards. Holds more (or similar to) than BMO or Saputo in Montreal.

Another slight but given his city hall is in a pissing match with the Ticats over soccer rights, it's not surprising. It is disappointing.

As I recall, the stadium was even turned in another direction to satisfy FIFA....
I'm sure this carrying on between the city and the Tiger cats.. over soccer...isn't helping....

No, BMO has a capacity of 31k for soccer, the seats at the south end slide out for soccer and seats are on rollers at the north end. BMO seated 38k for the MLS playoff game and the MLS championship game.
THF's capacity is 24k and with temp seats probably 32k like TD Place.

According to the article I provided a link to, THF can increase capacity to 40 thousand for events like the Grey cup....

Nothing in the Globe and Mail article you provided that states THF can be 40k. But for soccer, temp stands can be put in where the end zones are right now.
FIFA also requires real grass and probably a roof over the seats like BMO.

Those that follow soccer would understand that although these are proposed stadiums... Only 3 (4 at most) would get picked.

Toronto
Montreal
Vancouver

They will retrofit stadiums to natural grass (BMO and Saputo) already have it. There's a good chance Vancouver has a dedicated Soccer stadium by then.

If they choose to use BC place and Rogers Centre and the Big O (which will be 576 years old by then) they will use the MLS stadiums as training fields.

They would never in a million years play a World Cup game Regina/Winnipeg or Hamilton.

This is a non story.

That's too bad we didn't make the list ????
"Die Mannschaft"
"The Team" ?

Jacksonville is a possibilty and named as one of the possible stadiums...we don't have real grass nor a roof over seats

Wiki..Tim Hortons Field - Wikipedia
States 40k and it was built to FIFA standards so artificial turf is not an issue.
Just narrow minded people from outside of Hamilton who have no freakin clue about Hamilton and insist on posting their version of truth.
Wish Off-Topic was still around so these people would stay off the Ticats forum. They have nowhere to post their garbage now. :frowning:

They're not playing a mens World Cup game on turf. Like Crash said, there was no chance of this ever happening in Hamilton.

It wasn't that THF was rejected, It was Council that withdrew their bid.
Why am I not the least bit surprised that these idiots withdraw from a World Cup that is 9 years away and shown around the whole World

Just to be clear, the City of Hamilton withdrew from consideration, it was their choice. Tim Hortons Field was not issue, quite the opposite

Unfortunately Rick, your article is well intentioned but incorrect. FIFA, CONCACAF and CSA officials all think @TimHortonsField is terrific.

No actually it doesn't mean that at all. City of hamilton withdrawing from the process is all it means. Expect world class soccer there soon

Fifa standard or not... they will not play a men's world cup game on turf.

This is relevant for those of us who don't follow soccer that closely....

Thank you for the information and the clarification, Grover.

They could theoretically replace the turf with grass for the games.. they have done it before. Being that it's outdoor it would be very inexpensive.
