Are teams going to play any exhibitions in Europe this year?
The preseason runs from 20 September to 4 October - that seems too long.
All the same, hey we will have the Olympic Hockey Tournament coming up in Italy with NHL players for the first time since 2010!
I had already forgotten that there were plans for NHL players to play in the Winter Olympics in China in 2022, but COVID issues delayed that resumption of participation by the NHL players.
tell me when the games are in April ![]()
First game is on April 1st is Canucks at Colorado 8:30 pm followed by St Louis at LA 9:00 pm and lastly Anaheim at San Jose 10:00 pm.![]()

Things that make you go
Hmmmmn!
This isn’t about contract negotiations
I’m sure the Oilers have a maximum $ contract already printed out waiting for his signature.
It is all about winning the Championship
He doesn’t want a 3rd consecutive failure at getting the Cup and a long term anchor contract
I’ll go out on a wee limb here
and just proclaim that we will not see a threepeat matchup for the Stanley Cup Final.
Now if anybody feels strongly that a threepeat series between Florida and Edmonton will happen, well, lay some skin on it now, but make sure to shop for outstanding odds.
For 26/27 that will be $20.8M … wonder how Draisaitl will feel about McDavid making over $6M more … wonder if McDavid might want to risk a one year deal so he can get $22.7M the next year on a 7 year deal?
Honestly don’t feel McDavid just wants to “max out” … he wants to win … likely means leaving Edmonton
I think that Flames fans will be happy with the Lowry hire. We know him well in Winnipeg. Nice guy, lots of experience and well liked by the players. He wasn’t head coaching material, but should excel as an assistant.
I was about to start the new NHL Season thread, as I have in the past, but then noticed that Abbey already started one. Unfortunately, it was buried.
Thank you Abbey. ![]()
@Jon you might want to lock up the Off-Season thread now. The Regular season starts on Tuesday. Abbey’s thread should now be the main one.
Good luck to all fans and their teams.
Will do. This thread was started early, but now it’s time.
An NHL analogy was even brought up in the heated “CFL One Division” thread today,
and a huge shootout ensued otherwise in now that dumpster fire of a thread and is still going on into the night,
but in response to the analogy,
the bad spleen exception of yore was shot down by me at the very least.
Now this thread has been revived in timely fashion thanks to @Krisiun , so now we can have an NHL season without finally as many of those bad spleens in February or so.
So as that matter has come full circle now in the proper thread, I hereby declare CFL Forum victory for the day!

Well we will find out really early what these LA Kings are made of this season. Their schedule for the first 21 games is brutal, with 14 of those games on the road.
On top of that, check out their opponents for their first 8 games. ![]()
- Colorado
- Vegas
- Winnipeg
- Minnesota
- Pittsburgh
- Carolina
- St.Louis
- Dallas
I’m hoping they go at least .500 here, otherwise they could find themselves in one hell of a hole to start off the season.
26 bold predictions for the 2025-26 NHL season
No details yet, but damn, McDavid re-signs with the Oilers. Those winning lottery numbers keep paying off.
Oilers sign McDavid to 2-year, $25M extension
Team friendly contract
Good on him!
Draitstyl contract is AAV $14 M/8years
Probably Oilers last chance at keeping him
A general article on the upcoming season:
For thos who don’t think of Florida as a dynasty with 3 straight trips to the Final and two straight wins, think again:
And in between the rest of the league trying to stop their dynasty,
They do have a cheat code most teams don’t have though in weather and no state tax status.
That was close for you Oiler fans. One day to spare. No signing would likely have meant win this year or bye bye. Now he has given the team two more years. I do appreciate the integrity and will to win of players that will leave money on the table in order to assist the team in winning a la the Bombers and Panthers who achieved their current dynasties largely because of that, although the Panthers less so with their no state tax jurisdiction. Connor has given Edmonton every chance to win.
Ah crap!
Now the Kings have to wait 2 more years before they can sign him. ![]()
