NHL 2024 off-season

That’s awful. As you probably know, I love Patrik Laine. A generational talent with the best shot in the world we won’t be able to see again this year.

And when Arber Xhekaj went after Pare (Leafs player) he turtled.

Yep, that’s the Score, surprised they didn’t make the flames 32 just because…

Boy!
This got ugly real quick between Bruins GM and their #1 Goalie(now that they traded Ullmark to OTT, methinks they should have wrapped up negotiations with Swayman 1st)

Interesting - I think Knies is one of the most under rated Leafs players. He’s tough, he works hard and while all about him were crumbling in the playoffs he was probably the best Leaf player in their last games.

Might just be me hung up on it but, to me the two guys St. Louis gave offer sheets - are being made out to be better than they are.
Broberg -46 games 22-23, 12 games 23-24.
Holloway - 51 games 22-23, 38 games 23-24
Broberg was asking for a trade after the teams poor start last season as well so - possible malcontent.
As for Holloway - yes he scores 18 points in 89 games - and now he doesn’t have McDavid and Draisaitl feeding him the puck.

I’m betting more like overpaid 3rd and 4th liners…

I certainly don’t agree with everything either, including what you say. Still, Broberg and Holloway are likely to be better than Arvidsson and Skinner in the long run, the former being a past good player that is fading and injury prone and the latter being a once star that is fading and a one way player. Yet Skinner will still be useful in the short term if McDavid is feeding him the puck. Arvidsson will be useful if he can stay healthy. It can make sense for the Oilers to give up a part of their future to increase their chances of winning now. Or at least that’s the plan.

I’m sure the Oilers didn’t want to lose two players to an offer sheet. Holloway will never be a star, but he is the kind of depth player you need to win the Cup. A great two way player whom I thought was Edmonton’s best bottom six forward in the playoffs last year. The jury remains out on Broberg, but he has youth on his side and it means something that half of the teams in the league have tried to pry him out of Edmonton. There is a good chance he will be a top four defenceman for the next decade and few teams have an abundance of those.

I hate Bertuzzi and don’t think he’ll do much. The Flames did well to sign Mantha. He won’t get them into the playoffs, but he is the kind of power forward that should command a nice price from a buyer at the trade deadline. The Jets have long been interested in him to beef up their size and I think will make a play for him at the trade deadline.

I also think that Byfield, Wyatt Johnston and Lafreniere are all really good players already and well on their way to becoming stars. Lafreniere sucked for a number of years, especially for a #1 overall pick, but he was great and at times sensational last year and is still relatively young.

We have to make sure hockey thrives in the southern US, even if it’s at the expense of Canadian clubs.
