Clashing Reports Surrounding New Oilersâ GM (msn.com)
"Billy Stefan reported that Mark Hunter was the expected hire. He also reported that, âStan Bowman still working through his options, but donât be surprised if he comes on as senior advisor to the GM.â
A lot is up in the air right now. Until the Oilers come out with an official announcement, itâs all speculation and rumor."
Edit - not 10 minutes later, the Oilers are holding a conference to announce Bowman as the GM.
Guess Caleb Kerney (author of the article) was not really in the know.
I was going to post this earlier. This morning the Oilers officially announced Bowman as their new GM.

Important signings:
I guess Necas wonât be landing withthe Jets after all.
I hadnât realized that Faber was a Kings draft pick and was traded to the Wild by them for Fiala. Fiala is a decent player but ouch! That trade will cost them for the next 10 years.
Always loved this guy. Heâs never been an ass like some of those still ahead of him on the list.
C is for moustache
Canada used to have the best goaltending in the world and now far from it. An article on who might be Canadaâs goaltenders in the 4 nation;s Cup in February. It looks like Ingram may be the best of the lot.
It is rare, although I expect we will see more of this. The Blues have targeted two Oilers players with offer sheets. I expect they wonât want to lose either, but they are so cap strapped they may not have a choice. I have little sympathy for an organization that signed Evander Kane to a $5.1 million deal that is killing their cap space, although they may place him on LTIR as the article says.
I always appreciate news, tales, and anecdotes for whenever karma strikes in bitter fashion, and may karma strike harder than even imagined.
Last guy I remember doing that was Kevin Lowe and nobody would trade with him ever again. Mostly because it breaks unwritten rules between GMâs.
Isnât there a Winnipeg draft pick asking for a trade already? Maybe they can get PLD backâŚ
When that trade happened a couple of years ago, the Kings wanted to add a dynamic, offensive player.
Fiala fit the bill but Minnesota wanted something good in return such as a good prospect and draft pick.
Once the Kings drafted Brandt Clarke, who has the talent to be the next Cale Makar, then Brock Faber could be used as trade bait.
I doubt the Kings really wanted to trade Faber but the reality is they would not be able to sign both Faber and Clarke to massive contracts in the near future. The salary cap ensures that.
That is the way it has been, but it wouldnât surprise me if more GMâs made offer sheets than has been the case so far. Not sure what Winnipeg player you might be referring to. Most teams have some vulnerability to an offer sheet but the Oilers are more vulnerable than most right now.
Berube will implement sweeping changes in Toronto. Starting with stripping Tavares of his captaincy.
Oh no âŚso vulnerableâŚno one has gone anywhere yet. Just do like Vegas and stuff a couple buys on LTIR and we are goodâŚ
Your amnesia when anything negative happens to the Jets is truly impressive.
Still no idea what you are talking about but your homerism when it comes to the Oilers is blatantly obvious.
I am guessing that you have a bee in your bonnet over my Kane comments. Believe me when I say I know what I am talking about from his time in Winnipeg. Those in Buffalo and San Jose know as well. Just because he is now an Oiler doesnât relieve him of being the Chad Kelly of the NHL.
Also, it is the article that brought up the Oilers being so vulnerable so perhaps you should go after the writer as well.
Yup I am an Oilers homer. Stanley Cup Parties on Jasper Ave are a blast, and the 5th is as fun as the firstâŚ
And your homerism around the Jets is blatant too.
