NHL 2024-25 regular season :nhl:

Fastest overtime goal in NHL history at 4 seconds scored by Brandon Montour last night. Lane Hutson being fitted for the goat horns. Worth a look. I was at a Jets game in the 80’s where Doug Smail scored 5 or 6 seconds into overtime, but it wasn’t 3 on 3 back then,

I agree that the Blues are a team to watch, not for the Cup, but for the last playoff spot. They have played better for some time than the other teams vying for that spot, namely Vancouver, Calgary and Utah. The only caveat is that they will be without Parayko until at least the playoffs start.

Looks like Montour jumped before the puck was dropped.

It amazes me that the NHL goes soft on even hits to the head that are otherwise outlawed in pro football as well as for a hit to the back of the head like this one, which is outlawed even in MMA and in other fight sport.

What if the legendary NFL Hall of Famer and first shutdown corner, Dick “Night Train” Lane, had become a skater and had learned basic puck-handling skills after he was done with the NFL?

Lane would be a natural and one of the best for these antics in the NHL, for he’s the one who perfected the clothesline tackle and hit!

This is absurd!

A good article and take on certain trade deadline moves:

wait what - so what the hurricanes actually got for Necas was Stankoven, 2 first rounders and 2 third rounders, which is a haul i would do every day that ends in “y”. Stankoven is a rookie - that deal will age very well for the canes in the long run.

That’s one way to look at it, but Stankoven isn’t Necas or Rantanen. I wouldn’t trade Necas for Stankoven. The picks are the wild card, but how often are 30th overall choices gold? The jury is still out, but Carolina at least did much better than they would have if they kept Rantanen and lost him after this season for nothing. What they really wanted was Rantanen for this year and another 8 years.

Hilarious to hear all the King’s fans booing PL Dubois on his return to the LA arena with his new team the Capitals. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

He must be getting pretty used to it by now since the same thing happened last year. That was when he returned to Winnipeg after he was traded to LA.

Some big changes possibly coming for next season due to the Olympics

According to LeBrun, next season’s schedule has been tentatively agreed upon. Similarly to this year, next year’s start date will likely be October 7th, and the Stanley Cup Final will likely run to the third week of June.

LeBrun mentioned that commissioner Gary Bettman has already told teams there will be more back-to-back contests next year and a more packed schedule. Since the current iteration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement expires before the 2026-27 season, the NHL and the NHLPA will look to amend the schedule then.

Another change to the schedule being discussed is removing the requirement of playing at least one game in every NHL arena per season.

LeBrun shared that there are ongoing negotiations regarding the potential removal of the NHL All-Star Game.

That’s the primary problem LeBrun wrote about. He shared that serious discussions are being had about shortening the preseason and expanding the regular season to 84 games. That would move the regular season start date to the last week of September while keeping the Stanley Cup Final around the same time.

Extending the calendar by a week or two would lower the saturation of regular-season games over a seven-month schedule. It also accounts for the expected Olympic Games and World Cup tournaments every two years.

Why is this P.O.S. still in the League

Former Chicago Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman has filed a court motion to quash a subpoena for him to be deposed in a lawsuit filed by a former Blackhawks player referred to as John Doe.
Bowman, who is now the Edmonton Oilers GM, argued he was not properly served the subpoena because his home is in Edmonton and the court does not have personal jurisdiction over him because he is a resident and citizen of Canada.
John Doe, a former Blackhawks player, is suing the team for failing to act when informed of sexual assault allegations against video coach Brad Aldrich during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Blackhawks previously settled a case with former player Kyle Beach over similar allegations.

I just checked the video several times and enlarged it and don’t see that. I thought it was perfect timing. It reminded me of a defensive player in football looking offside when he times his jump with the snap perfectly.
