NHL 2024-25 regular season :nhl:

Most of you have probably heard but Hartman received a well earned and long overdue 10 game suspension. He is as dirty as any player in the league, perhaps the dirtiest.

In my opinion this type of talk is just silly and neanderthal. We long ago dispensed with vigilante justice in a democratic society and no sport tolerates it or expects it except hockey. Should we be teaching our children that no matter whatever punishment someone receives they should add to it if they feel aggrieved? the system here worked and Hartman received 10 games as punishment. It is also pure arrogance to think that should be added to.

Sort of odd too considering Ruff said he talked his guys out of taking penalties because of the game situation.

I don’t mind playing tough after an incident like that but be smart, don’t do it dirty, keep it clean, and don’t take penalties.

If the guy who did it is gone for a match penalty take the power play and put the puck in the net, winnig is the best revenge.

“Oooh spinaroo! Sucks to be you!”

Evgeni Malkin:
“Okay. That is today’s lesson. Class dismissed.”

Yeah before you say it this I will admit is a homer post, but I have no idea when if ever I can be proud of the Jets again for clearly being the best team in the league this far into the season. And yes I know they haven’t won anything yet now or in the 80’s, but their dominance this season is astounding. In addition to best power play they are second best in scoring differential at 5 on 5 (not mentioned in the article) and best in goals for and against. Rob Brind’amour said this week that he had been reviweing tape before Tuesday’s game and said he could not find any weaknesses in the Jets. Hopefully they can roll this through in the playoffs is all I can say.

It won’t be long now before trading heats up. I understand that trades aren’t prohibited during the upcoming break, but that it is expected that formal announcements of trades will be put on pause until after the 4 Nations Cup via gentlemen’s agreement. There is sure to be a fleury after that. Incidentally, the early returns on the recent blockbuster have been great for Colorado. Necas is killing it at a point a game clip while Rantanen has something like 2 points in 8 games. It’s early, but maybe playing on the same line as Mackinnon is the important factor and Rantanen isn’t any better than Necas after all?

I suppose he is in the conversation, but he doesn’t have my vote. Maybe that is because I know what happens to him come playoff time, which should not be considered for a regular season only award. Or maybe it’s because the Jets are such a good team that his contribution is exaggerated and his stats are more of a result of the quality of the team he plays for than anything he is personally responsible for.

After recovering from the shock, I thought I would post this week’s power rankings where the Jets are actually #1. How could that be? You know the Oilers and the Leafs have a better percentage of odd man rushes that score on a Tuesday when it is not raining in Vancouver and as a result should be ranked higher than the Jets. Those drill down stats are much more important than the usual stats and Bill Parcells was wrong when he said that you are what your record says you are, don’t you know. In any event I will enjoy the minimum 2 week reign of the Jets atop the power rankings, even if they don’t deserve it. :slightly_smiling_face:

I think nearly 90% of pro hockey commentators would have the Jets ranked at #1 at the 4 Nations break. Deservedly so!

I also think the vast majority of them believe the Jets will be toast either in a first round “upset” or no later than the 2nd round. If the Jets can somehow get this boogaboo off their backs and ride past the 2nd round, there’s no telling how far they’ll go.
There’s no doubt their amazing 3.5 goals a game will dry up under intense playoff checking. Then there’s the sordid mystery of whether Connor Helleybuyck’s play in net diminishes as it has in just about every Jets playoff run.

That is an amazingly light criticism of a Winnipeg team by you Lyle. Giving them 90% is amazing and presumably the 10% accounts for the deaf, dumb and blind crowd. I would answer and say that while it is far too early to tell which team will be in the best position come playoff time, with future injuries potentially being a huge factor, the Jets this year are the best version of the team since they moved over from Atlanta. As pretty much every opponent who plays them says, they just have no weaknesses. They also have off the charts forward depth.

But I am going to try a new strategy to balance out your Winnipeg comments now and going forward. Lest the forum gods apply your words to reality, I will counter them similar to what some do with a “jinx pick” in the pools.

The Jets will win the next 3 Stanley Cups. Easily. You heard it here first!

Sorry to let you down boss, but I only have 'em down for 2.

Maybe this will be the year come playoff time😉

The Jets would be scary if he was regular season Connor in the playoffs for once. But I’m not holding my breath. I’ve seen this movie before.

Today’s view by TSN on some sellers as we get closer to the trade deadline.

Yes I saw that interview and wasn’t impressed. He never once talked like that while with the Jets. We’ll see how he does. He could remain disappeared or could score 12 goals in 4 games, even at this level. That’s his conundrum. No excuses as he will have a top notch center. The thing that keeps me invested in him is that I have never seen a better shot in 53 years of watching hockey. I am a sucker for raw talent.

I have not paid close enough attention to the chatter here locally, however the little I have heard the shine is starting to wear off Laine.

Most (if not almost all) go through ups and downs. It’s how you react to the “downs” that make an impression.
Easy to point the finger at lack of ice time.
Might have been better if he said that his play has warrented the lack of ice time and he has to work harder to regain the time he had previously.

We shall see how his play is in the next two weeks in this 4 Nation tournament.
Hopefully he finds his mojo and it carries over to the Habs.
