NHL 2024-25 regular season :nhl:

Wow! I had to read more on this, and of course there is TMZ on the scene today too.

Hearkening to his instincts from the rink, Bissonnette did get involved to try to stop the situation that involved six drunk golfers at the venue,
and then it sounds like these drunk dudes threw down their golf gloves,
and well I guess then it was back to the fighting instincts from the rink but without skates or gear.

Even so any wandering laughs aside, and just as happened, these situations can be really dangerous no matter what shape you are in simply because you quite do not know exactly who are your opponents in any given public or street fight, plus there are no rules.

In this case they all might have been more than merely drunk too.

“There was a bit of a ruckus going on in the bar,” Bissonette said. “It was a bunch of drunk golfers. Things obviously continue to escalate. They ask one guy to leave, and one guy kept getting in the manager’s face and put his hands on him.”

The 39-year-old said it went on for 30-45 seconds before he intervened, telling the man in the manager’s face … “If you continue to harass and assault the staff, we’re gonna have problems.”

That’s when things turned physical, with Bissonette explaining, “They started chucking” throughout the restaurant and even into the nearby CVS parking lot.

“Got taken down a couple times,” he said. “Got boot f****d to the head three times by the CVS. Luckily I didn’t get knocked out. Did go to the hospital, so that’s probably what everybody is reading about.”

The article goes on that the police did arrive and Bissonnette did speak with them, and all six dudes were arrested after the investigation.

I certainly hope that the restaurant presses charges too and that those who kicked his head do some hard time as well as pay up for damages in a civil case.

The 4 Nations Cup is getting closer and talk will I am sure pick up next week when the final rosters are announced. Probably worth a separate thread at that point. This should be the best hockey the world has seen since at least 2016.

Canada should have the best defence (Morrissey/Makar) being either 1-2 or 2-1 in the world) and should have very good forwards, although maybe not as deep as the US.

Where they lack considerably on paper is in goal. Their best choice this year would appear to be Daccord, but they can’t even figure out if he is Canadian or not. Either way they should have the weakest goaltending of the 4 teams.

A must see own goal:

An updated version of Team Canada for the 4 Nations Cup. I like this version much better, especially at forward. I would probably make a couple of changes at D, with Tanev not making the grade for me. It’s a no brainer to add Scheifele over Hyman. I’m also still not sold on Stone.

With the fabulous forward group Team Canada can ice
They need their defence to keep the puck out of their net
I don’t see lacking at Scoring with that top 6-9
They don’t really need scoring from the defence, they will need defensive defencemen,
Tanev fits that role perfectly

Yes Tanev does fit that role, but off of the top of my head there are several others that I can think of that would be better suited in my opinion. Those picking the team are putting Devon Toews with Makar because they play together and form a formidable pair. If that logic is followed then certainly Dylan DeMelo should also be paired with Josh Morrissey as they were statistically the best pair in the league last year and haven’t lost a step.

Canada has an embarassment of riches on defence and I believe easily the best defence of the tourney, although they may have the worst goaltending and I think are behind the US at least in the forwards department. It certainly helps to have arguably the two best defenceman in the world in Morrissey and Makar and certainly the two best skating defenceman in the world. The two modern Bobby Orrs would be something to see on the same pairing.

Below is a link to other available Canadian defenceman:

https://www.google.com/search?sca_esv=69dffed68e86d379&rlz=1C1CHBD_enCA1089CA1089&sxsrf=ADLYWIIimzDLNg5aai_VdLIUAR4Vx8-DeQ:1732821941989&q=canadian+nhl+defensemen&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiUwL7i4P-JAxUprYkEHT4AJy0Q7xYoAHoECA0QAQ&biw=1920&bih=919&dpr=1

Catching my eye over the sluggish Tanev in addition to DeMelo are Pietrangelo, Rielly, Girard, Chabot, Weegar, Sanheim, Dunn, Ekblad, Owen Power, Braiden Schneider and Doughty (if healthy). I would probably take Ekblad out of these over Tanev and would certainly take DeMelo over Toews. Why take two defenceman from a team not particularly known for their defence when you can take two defencemaen and the top defensive pairing in the league from the team that has been the best defensively the last two seasons? That isn’t a fluke over that timespan.

In any event this is all just fun speculation. We will know all next week.

Quinn Hughs says no

I thought you would say that, but a cut below in my opinion.

yes your opinion. I’d think I might even put Bouchard above Morrisey.

Adam Fox + Quinn Hughs = instant breakout cheat code

I would almost put Brett Kulak above Bouchard so far this season.

There are too many offense-minded D-men to put them all on Team Canada, I think that much is evident. if you look around the league, a majority of these players also need someone who can stay back in case of emergency. Outside of the pairing of Rasmus Dahlin and Bowen Byram, there aren’t a lot of teams that pair up offensive-minded D probably due to the chaos it can create.

Also, unfortunately due to no best-on-best international competitions for quite some time now, it’s hard to know who pairs up well. That’s likely why having the existing pairings make sense.

Given that, I don’t think Devon Toews has been particularly effective if we look at Colorado being continuously shellacked this year.

Also, I think Weegar is a must have on this roster for his multi-faceted play.

I guess you don’t get to see Morrissey much. He is hands down the best skater in the world in my opinion. That doesn’t mean the fastest or the fastest with the puck like McDavid, but simply the best. He is very fast, but his outstanding feature is that he can skate sideways or backwards as well as he can forward and he has a one of a kind ability to slither along the blue line and retain the puck even though there is no room available. The only skaters I have seen as smooth as him in 50+ years of watching hockey are Scott Niedermayer (the GOAT of skating) and Bobby Orr. He is also far better defensively than Makar, Hughes or really any defenseman that will be on the Team Canada roster. I don’t usually try and convince anyone of this when the stats back up what I say. The stats say that you are more likely to win a game with Morrissey on the ice than any other defenceman in the world and the same goes for the Morrissey/DeMelo pairing compared to any other pairing. They may not get as much press as defenceman in other cities do and Morrissey doesn’t score like Makar or Hughes, but you will win more games with him on the ice than the other two. The stats don’t lie.

This is the third time I have posted these drilled down stats:

Definitely not a big fan of Adam Fox compared to many other names we have been discussing, but we don’t have to worry about him in the Team Canada discussion as he is American as is Quinn Hughes

I was wondering when he might return, but it appears best “backup” in the league has had a set back.

One of my favourite goalies who was the starter for Vegas in the playoffs in their Cup year until he was hurt. I have been lucky to see him play many times during his two stints in Winnipeg and believe he could start for over half the teams in the NHL. Pretty impressive stats last year:

Brossoit spent last season with the Jets for a second stint with the team. Brossoit appeared in 23 games, going 15-5-2 with a .927 save percentage and a goals against average of 2.00.

Hopefully he gets better soon.
