What a slate, and let’s call it the Tricky Slate, this weekend starting this Weekend Eve tonight! Arrrggh!
And then that slate is tricky next weekend too, starting on Christmas Day.
“Wherefore ye be asail on the high seas, ye rascals!”
Anyway never mind Private Stubbles weighing in tonight,
Pirate Sports Network is on those high seas tonight for assistance.
'Tis a stressful season is it not?
Anyway enjoy also a break from the holiday season via all the action in the games and banter here by all means.
And yes, I do see you in the back there, we are also including those of you who perhaps are celebrating Festivus this weekend, including the sacred rites of the Airing of Grievances and the Feats of Strength, of course.
Yes - the yule log - make it big to burn bright so as to make sure the gods haven’t forgotten us.
…and if you live in Alberta so you don’t freeze your a$$ off…
There will be triple wife torture tonight, football, Senators/Flames and Bruins/Oilers. Lets change that to a virtual smorgasbord of sports entertainment, World Jr’s tune up, NFL, and a few NHL games, add the Kings/Flyers to the list.
And the Chargers go up 27-24 after an amazing catch on the two point conversion. Still most of the 4th quarter left, but the Bolts looked like they were done earlier in the game. Could go right down to the wire.
And the Chargers go up 34-24 with 2:24 left after racing downfield 90 yards in no time at all. Looks like a San Diego win is about to happen. Even if Denver scores they will still need to recover an onside kick
I think lots took Denver in the pool, although I’m off to a 1-0 start for a change. Turned out to be a pretty good game.
For the legendary Al Michaels, I don’t know, but he might take that successful and very rare fair catch free kick, an old rugby remnant that remains in only high school and NFL rules in American football, as his sign to retire.
Al Michaels might be able to claim that now he has seen it all in the NFL.
This rule for a fair catch free kick is so old,
like the fair catch in American football that is derived from the mark in rugby as it is still called,
that even in rugby only the current remnant law for the mark remains as a law of the game.
In rugby union, the very rare “goal from mark,” from which this rule in American football was derived, was phased out of the game in 1977 after hardly ever being used for decades.
Darned our luck on the high seas, for I just missed this historic moment in the NFL live when I tuned in to hear them talking about it and was in disbelief!
That’s what I was thinking of too…not hard when you look to tell which game is a derivative of the other as bits and pieces of The Laws still exist in the dusty corners of football rules.
As I posted in the NFL rules thread, I was well aware of this rule but had never seen it in action until last night.
Unlike other rugby derived rules that are way past their best before date like the dribble kick and the rouge, I find this to be a great rule and non gimmicky. Unlike the two I just mentioned it doesn’t reward your own failure.
