NFL in Toronto...another attempt coming up?

The Bills experiment in TO is meaningless when it come to a bidder wanting to move them there. If the Bon Jovi/MLSE/Rogers win the bid and their intention is to move the team to TO do you think the NFL would step in and say “you can’t move them to TO because they had a few games there and their attendance was low” ?
If the NFL was concerned about the Buffalo at TO experiment they would have stated up front to the bidders "sorry because of the low attendance for the Bills at TO you can’t move them there. It’s the bidders taking the risk, it’s move at your own risk.

I agree. move along, nothing to see here

It’s not “as I contend” I am just reading the TSN article above AND all the other articles below – the Bon Jovi group partnering with Rogers and MLSE. Don’t shoot the messenger

There is nothing in any of the articles you provided that indicates “the money will be coming from MLSE and Rogers Corporation…” for the potential purchase of the Bills as you stated earlier.
Larry Tanenbaum is the Chairman of the Board of MLSE and Edward Rogers is also on the Board. MLSE and/or Rogers don’t simply “give money” to members of the Board or other shareholders if and when those private individuals want to buy a new car, a new house, or a football team. I think you’ll find that is not permitted under the rules governing registered Canadian corporations.
The Tanenbaum/Rogers family/Bon Jovi group is funding their bid for the Bills from their own private assets which collectively total some $9.1 billion. I doubt if there is any need for them to borrow money from outside the group in order to to fund their offer.
If you’re thinking that MLSE and/or Rogers may potentially participate in funding for an NFL-approved stadium in the GTA for the Bills, that is a completely separate issue and is quite possible if the Bon Jovi group bid is successful.

Jason La Canfora - NFL reporter for CBS Sports figures that it is likely to come down to one of the Pegula bid or the Bon Jovi/Rogers/Tanenbaum bid for the Bills - even though some 16 groups have been 'kicking the tires'.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I find this kind of funny.
Where do you think Mr Rogers and Tanebaum got their wealth??? from Rogers and MLSE!!
We know that a corporation can not own an NFL team, we’ve talked about it over and over again and it’s explained in the articles above.

and when did I ever say “I am thinking that MLSE and/or Rogers may potentially fund a stadium” ???

Bon Jovi’s letter to Buffalo: “Why We’re Bidding on the Buffalo Bills?

Our objective is simple: to carry on the legacy of Ralph Wilson and make the Bills successful in Buffalo.

We are committed to working with the State, City, County and business community to identify the best possible site in the Buffalo area for a new stadium and to then develop and implement a plan to finance and build a state-of-the-art NFL stadium for the loyal Bills fans.

I know how much the Bills mean to the people of this region. So I want you to hear this from me: I’m not risking it all to let you down. If we are given the chance to be the next owners of the Buffalo Bills, I promise you that we will bring the same passion that you do every Sunday, every day.

With the reconstruction going on at Rich Stadium and the huge lease the Bills have in Buffalo if the Toronto group of Bon Jovi and Tannenbaum won the right to buy the Bills, I think they would stay in Buffalo until at least 2022 otherwise it's like $400 million to break the lease and why just to come to Toronto it's such a fickle football market to begin with?

Maybe the NFL should just award an expansion team to Toronto it's going to cost a billion dollars anyway and they say a brand new expansion team in the NFL would be a Billion, if they allowed it??

Maybe we can stop talking about it now.
Looks like the Sabres owner will buy them and use them as part of his redevelopment of downtown/waterfront Buffalo. Don't think TO wants the Bills anyway.
Expansion team? who knows, the NFL has not talked about expansion at all. Maybe MLSE/Rogers/BJ will approach the NFL with a business plan.

Agree. I just wish the Bon Jovi music references would end. If I read one more “Living On A Prayer” (or whatever the song is) title, I will scream!

i say give it to the Jovi group. and lock them into buffalo for atleast 30 years.

this way you know the NFL will never come to Toronto. the Jovi group will block it from happening.

Bon Jovi's letter to Buffalo.

Being part of the NFL is something I have been working toward for a long time. Ten years ago, I started by taking an expansion Arena Football team, the Philadelphia Soul, from its inception to winning a championship in five years. I wanted to learn what it takes to build a successful football organization. I was involved in every aspect of that team from its beginning and I lived for and loved every moment.

My family and I are prepared to make this life-changing commitment to be part of the Bills. This is not a hobby or an acquisition. Building a winner on and off the field will be job one and I intend to spend as much time on the ground in Buffalo as needed to accomplish that goal.

I know how much the Bills mean to the people of this region. So I want you to hear this from me: I’m not risking it all to let you down. How could the owners in Buffalo prevent the NFL coming to Toronto? they can’t. There is this belief that Toronto which is 160 km from Buffalo is in their territory, that’s not true. I think some people are confusing the Buffalo Sabres territorial rights with the NHL and Hamilton.

The Bills not coming to TO doesn’t change a thing. It’s not like fans were holding off buying Argo tickets until they hear the official annoucement.
The Argos are still in trouble and there is still lack of fans going to the RC and no sign of anyone wanting to buy the money losing Argos. Toronto is closer to not having ANY football team, that 2017 “vacate the RC” date looms nearer.

I agree. There are no guarantees in life or business. However, if Pagula(?) pays $1B+ for the Bills, there is a very good chance he claims Toronto as his territory and the other owners agree.

If the Bills stay in Buffalo with a local owner, the ONLY chance Toronto has for an NFL team is thru expansion - with a huge fee being paid to the Buffalo owner. Given the cost of an NFL team, the cost of an NFL Stadium in Toronto and the fee mentioned above, if the Bills stay in Buffalo, the odds of an NFL team in Toronto drop to nil.

Again, if the NFL is going to expand outside the U.S., London (England), Germany and Mexico City are far higher on the radar than Toronto.

What makes me laugh are the Toronto NFL Seat Licence people. Those who believe people/corporations will be lined up to pay $30K for the rights to buy season tickets for an NFL team. Corporations are so tight/cheap nowadays, that is NOT going to happen. They will be lined up to pay $30K like people were lined up to see the Bills in Toronto.

well its more like 100 km “as the crow flies”. Roger Goodell has stated Toronto is in Buffalo’s territory and its been stamped by buffalo playing games up here.

if the Bills stay in WNY, there wont be a team in Southern Ont. this right here is Toronto’s only chance for a long long time.

there is a direct quote that i’ll try to find but I think this will do.

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/football/roger ... l-1.746834

“The Bills, particularly in their effort here to regionalize the team further to southern Ontario and Toronto has been a very big success,” he continued. “And I think that’s something that we’re all proud of — the fact that we can now make the team stronger here.”

The move to expand their market north to Toronto makes the Bills the NFL’s first team to play annual regular-season games outside the United States.

Yup. That being said, the NFL in Toronto stories will continue to pop up every 6 months.

lol. true

wasn’t long for them to start with the “I didn’t think it was Buffalo moving here, its likely the Jags”

smh

Stories like this have popped up for 40+ years. They are not going to stop. As I said before, each generation thinks they are the first ones to want an NFL team. The Sun loves to run a story like this twice a year. Nothing ever comes of it but I bet they sell a ton of papers.

I agree. its much like here. any word of a NHL team or prospective buyer lobbying for a team and the news goes nuts.

I tell myself not to get sucked in but it never works
