NFL Game Day Thread Week 2 Sunday-Monday 15-16 Sept 24

That was a really good game. Not holding out too much hope the next one will be good.

As is the case often with both New York teams, tonight’s game is a traditional shameless ratings grab early in the season, which is almost every night game in which Chicago is involved early in the season, including a Thursday night game in four weeks in Chicago.

Houston on the other side tonight is also somewhat of a boost for a night game.

Hard pass here though I will probably have it on some in the background until I switch to Netflix.

Yeah two huge cities involved so should be lots of TV eyeballs.

I’m just afraid that Houston will annihilate the Bears, especially if Williams plays like he did last week. You never know. I’ll give it a shot for a bit but unlikely to watch the whole game.

Anybody else get a look at that dweeb Jac Collinsworth in the pre-game?
Yes, that’s Cris’s son. Ah, nepotism!

He looks like a 17-year old who tried to grow a creepstache before getting his government identification so that he can try to sneak into bars or to buy booze.

What a bojack.

Seems there’s always that “is that what I saw?” running through the officials head while he reruns it on internal instant replay.
Strangley - a lot of those calls are good calls…(wish some ref whose name sounds like Proulx would do that more often…)

Wonder why they never open the roof  Helping the kicker?

Oh good the percentage of kickoff returns actually dropped 3% this week. Great…

Are a lot of kickers using that short run up? I think it was just one step…

Glad this wasn’t a pool game…

CAMERA DOINK!

Just saw someone in the reddit thread say they want the NFL to change kicking balls to make them harder to kick because “we shouldnt be seeing multiple 50 yard field goals a game”

That’s probably just a raw rumour but who knows before too long here, for a great point was made for example during the Ravens’ game on the kickoff by the Raiders (my second team - woohoo!) with under two minutes to go.

Instead of kicking in the landing zone to waste a few more seconds though not without some risk, and there is no more squib kick of course, the Raiders kicked for touchback.

Now the Ravens have Justin Tucker, who has the NFL record of 66 yards on a field goal in 2021 and had kicked one from 70 in the pregame, for which they showed the video (though an important point was made by the announcer, kicking from a stationary ball is not the same as via snap and hold).

However, Tucker’s issue is not his leg now but his accuracy, which was woeful from 50+ I think as they cited for last season with only one kick made!

Anyway, the point was with Lamar Jackson starting at the 30 yard line, he only had about a 30-yard field (i.e. the Raiders’ 40-yard line) with which to operate to get into Tucker’s range, though of course a 57 or 58 yard field goal, with the game on the line at that, is tough for any pro kicker.

In past times, this situation was from the 20 or the 25 after a touchback.

Anyway, the Ravens didn’t even make it to take a kick and ran a trick play to play rugby on the last play of the game that failed.

I don’t see that common situation of a touchback at the 30 lasting and see something changing here, though I do not agree the next change is the ball but rather something with the lines on the kickoff.

That would have to be a slightly deflated football. Hmmm, seems like a job for Tom Brady…

Tucker made another one from 66 at the end of the first half but it was negated by a penalty.

Between Tirico and Collinsworth youd think we’re watching the Super Bowl tonight.

Fairbairn wow!

5/5 on the season right now, all from 50 yards!

Which is why any observed Disqualification penalty, in any league, should be allowed to be called by video officials.

Usually because the guys on the field are trying to stop a full blown riot from developing…

Houston keeps letting Chicago hang around…
6 minutes left and the Bears recover a fumble - and are still hanging around…

I had my 50th birthday party over the weekend. In addition to the beer and liquor that I bought, people brought more beer and about 20 bottles of wine. I gave away half of the beer at the end and I still have enough to last me to Thanksgiving,
