Week #11 kicks off in Philadelphia with the Eagles hosting the Commanders.
This is a BIG GAME!
Looking forward to it!
It’s a brisk night here in Philadelphia, about 7C, slight westerly wind 13km/h for those watching the kickers.
The game is on Fox for those able to get the game from afar who are not here in Philadelphia or in Washington and who don’t have Prime or NFL+, for those watching, in the United States.
Pirate Sports Network is on this game as an official unofficial media partner again, and by request to me, they may be able to help you as well.
Though Thursday night games are often at the wrong time, THIS ONE feels tonight like it’s on the right night. The mini-bye until next Sunday is great too.
According to the homers on the local Fox affiliate, these are the two keys to the game for Philadelphia, and I concur.
- Control the pace of the game with the Eagles running game.
- Contain QB Daniels in the pocket to force him to either throw or hit the turf.
Enjoy the game all of you viewing in Canada and around the world!
That seems to be the biggest key to me. When he escapes people have to make a decision and there is no right decision…
Well I can’t seem to get the TV to work at the AirBnB so I will only be catching the statlines. Hopefully Washington shows up tonight and gives Philly a run for their money!
Still can’t believe the 1 time I’m in North Carolina the Panthers are in Germany and then on a Bye Week
OH THAT’S GOTTA HURT!
Well anyway, don’t do that again!
So Jake Elliott just missed a 51-yard field goal, wide left, basically kicking a banana kick from the RIGHT hash as otherwise it had the distance and was on target and negligible win.
At distance, it is not hard at all to be slightly off on angle so as to make a major difference downfield, and I don’t know if it was the hold, but at minimum Elliott’s stance has to be off to sail a kick wide left like that from the right hash.
Elliott better aim to the right side of the goal on the next one and let that ball sail in either via his natural motion or any greater southwesterly winds on the high seas tonight. Arrrggh.
Oof. This Eagle’s offense is just steaming hot in the first half of games. This is unacceptable.
Saquon Saquon Saquon plus a quarterback run is not going to do it against top teams.
Oh well Commanders 7, Eagles 3 at the half, both teams playing fine defense.
3 seconds left in the first half. Hail Mary time for the Commanders?
KNOCK IT DOWN!
Update:
Shoot, Jalen Hurts is in the medical tent, and it appears it is concussion-related.
Eagles score a TD to go up 12-10 as Elliot missed the PAT after missing two earlier field goals. He hasn’t made a 50 yard plus FG all year. Easily the worst placekicker in the league. Most fans now cheering for the Eagles again instead of booing them.
Good job by the kicker of the Commanders Gonzalez on that 45-yard field goal earlier, which he made after making the first kick before the delay of game penalty, to read the high seas and have that ball sail in good.
On the opposite end, sure enough, something is wrong with Jake Elliott’s stance to send three kicks wide left already tonight.
I figure Elliott is lining up at the wrong angle to the ball. It does not take much off centre to the ball to send a kick wide left or wide right.
Castillo should be available on Monday. Might be a little hung over though. .
Aim right Elliot…aim right…that’s what 7 points tonight?
There we go. Eagles have been grinding away at the defence all night and at last they are up 19-10.
INT and another jog down the field for Barkley…
I was a bit concerned about my pick at the end of the half, but its what good running teams do, chew, chew, chew, on the defence until guys get tired and then they start gaining chunks.
Now 26-10 after two big plays. Stopping Washington on 4th down and recovering their own fumble. Then a bonus interception. A game that was close all night now over. I wish both of these teams could lose.
Checked again and Philly fans now cheering for Philly and likely will the rest of the game.
Hold on - W made it 28-16 with 29 seconds left - and screws up the onside kick to end it…
I love Airbnbs but one thing I hate is that they never seem to have local TV. It’s always this Hulu stuff so I wind up watching reruns.
All the Thursday night games are on Prime Video.
Moody (Niners) had a game to forget recently.
As they discussed the statistic last night, it is exceedingly far more difficult than it was many years ago to recover an onside kick. Only two have been recovered in the NFL so far this year. I have a feeling they take a harder look at this matter in the off-season when they review the kickoff again.
No doubt this is what the Eagles do best. They are the best team in the division, and at this rate that’s good for making the playoffs, but eight games to play.
Even with a 16-point lead late, I didn’t like the defense on that last drive by the Commanders at all. High credit to Zach Ertz for his performance on that last drive in his old home stadium, including for a touchdown plus that awesome catch for the two-point conversion.
But I don’t think this grinding style of play will work against the best teams that can put up points early, and like many fans of the Eagles, I am concerned.
