National Football League defensive end Gaines Adams passed away at the age of 26 on January 17, 2010. He was taken to the emergency room at Self Regional Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina, where Adams was declared dead.http://www.wyff4.com/sports/22258657/detail.html7

A cause of death was not immediately available. According to Greenwood County Coroner Jim Coursey, Adams appeared to be in perfect health at the time of death.

Sad News He was a very good DE.

That is terrible. My condolences to his family. Very sad.

The Connor is saying he died from Heart Failure due to enlarged heart

We seen this before have we not(Jamacia Jackson)

He died of exactly the same problem that former Ticat Jamacia Jackson did. An enlarged heart. Very sad indeed.

I hope this condition isn't caused by any of the many pain killers football players often get from team doctors and trainers.

Still makes wounder how much a Players health is checked Heart Issies..

I'm a Bears fan. This is very sad news away from the field because the guy was only 26.It just does'nt seem right.
If one pulls oneself away from the human side of the issue, this really hurts the Bears. Not because Adams was a great player, because frankly,he was'nt that good.Chicago gave up a 1st round pick for him to Tampa Bay.So The Bears lose a 1st round pick after a poor season and they lose the player in unfortunate circumstances.Keep in mind, they gave up another 1st rounder to Denver for Jay Cutler!!!This devastating personel loss for the team, which is obviuosly outweighed by the personal tragedy.

Prayers to his family...

RIP Gaines Adams

Yes, unfortunately we've seen this before too many times. There probably isn't going to be any real answer as to the cause of the enlarged heart, but I don't think it really matters at this point. It is so sad and such a waste. The pressure on these kids is often more than they can handle.

Sad news indeed. I send condolences sent to everyone touched by this.

that's sad; i wonder if he had any prior indication of his condition. I'm not an M.D.- i wonder if their is anything they can do 2 help combat an enlarged heart? Or is it just a case of all of us having an expirey date..

There's some talk of this and/or creatine use on the Bears website....
