Why on earth would Matthews leave Montreal, at this stage in his career, to clean up the mess that is Hamilton? The prevailing feeling here is that Matthews will finish his coaching career in Montreal, hopefully culminating with a Grey Cup. Don't get yer hopes up, boys.
How about Steven Spurier? He would be a perfect fit for this league.
Another coach to consider, Las Vegas's old coach Ron Meyer, out of all the American coaches he seemed to be the only one who knew what he was doing and adjusted well to the league, and he has lots of NFL experience.
Aim high! Look at the prospect of buying out or renewing the contract of one of the CFL coaches who has a string of successes behind him, otherwise, I like the Kent Austin or Western Greg Marshall idea.
