Defensive pass interference or not as argued and lost, Collaros had no business trying to sling that ball in there with clear telegraphing like ol’ Ron Burgundy did in his last days at the end of his very short career.
Brett Favre used to do this heavily too and threw a ton of interceptions though in the end it worked out for a Hall of Fame career, but too many quarterbacks are still trying to be Brett Favre, as they are not.
I’ll be really upset if our quarterbacks start sending d***picks to hot sideline interviewers and even more upset if they divert funds meant for poor people to their daughter’s swanky college to build new squash courts.
I’m not one to know, but I don’t see CBS Sports doing much for new initiatives for leagues and sports that are less popular amongst those offered.
The reason is that the 2025 budget is the last one that involves heavy influence by current ownership, for the acquisition of Paramount Global by Skydance remains in the works and pending into much of 2025:
Now for 2026 when the current CFL deal expires, we shall see, and I would bet on CBS hanging onto the CFL and other live sports rights unless they were to be outbid, which I’m not seeing at all from its broadcast competitors for the sake of the CFL.
Well here’s some more insight at CBS now that this news has hit today of major layoffs after a massive $6B writedown at Paramount Global, which also has been foreseen for weeks as part of the process of acquisition by Skydance.
Now I’m thinking there will indeed be changes to how the deal with the CFL is carried out in 2025. Will it be more or fewer games on CFL+ in the US instead of being relegated to only CBS Sports Network?
The picture has been great, the commercials need more improvement but are better, and of course best of all it is FREE.
But shoot, put the CFL on Paramount+ and as cheap as it is, I’d like that more for quality of production.
The CFL on CBS Sports Network, Rest of the 2024 Season
So here’s the score through 6 September for those of you watching CBS Sports Network, in the United States.
Remember, when the CFL is not on CBS in the US, it’s on CFL+ but of course it’s always on Pirate Sports Network.
On Friday 6 September, strangely the CFL in the US is going up directly against the NFL, which has a debut in Brazil and an exclusive with Peacock (hopefully the last such exclusive ever).
After 6 September, there are only four more games on CBS Sports Network, and three of them are on Friday nights. If I were a cable subscriber, I would be vastly disappointed that this number is not higher.
Starting this Friday 23 August through 6 September, ALL games are on CBS Sports Network except on Saturday, 24 August. It’s interesting that CBS is locking up the entire Labour Day weekend for the CFL.
There are no postseason games on CBS Sports Network, including the Grey Cup, though it remains to be wondered what in the world can be done for the Grey Cup for regular TV in the US this year given the missed opportunity it was last year. This matter is also part of a much larger debate about how TV schedules are determined still in 2024 in the US, with “making it up in streaming” still not a full option for all.
Well aside from somewhat better commercial breaks this year and what seems like an even better clear picture, there is an item that somebody else mentioned that they do have to fix with the CFL+ feed - the VOLUME.
Now of course one can adjust that volume with their device speakers and/or with their TV settings, but it’s a constant process because the volume of the feed, and especially on the ads, seems to vary.
As the game progresses, it sounds like the ads are increasingly LOUDER in fact, and wow is that annoying if you don’t lower the volume at halftime.
CBS Sports Network and CFL+, Rest of 2024 Season,
For Those Watching, in the United States
So after all games were on cable in the US over Labor Day weekend along with on Pirate Sports Network, now for the rest of the month, only games on Friday nights, except for on 20 September, are on CBS Sports Network.
If I am home on a Friday night, Pirate Sports Network will host the games as well, but generally I am working on Friday nights and so I simply follow the game via radio.
All other games will be on CFL+ in September.
In October, only two games will be on CBS Sports Network with the rest on CFL+ through the end of the season, including for the Grey Cup.
