New Players

I don't understand the issue here. Put Troy on the active list, cut Brink, boom. Are the coaches really that attached to Brink that they want to keep him on the active roster over Smith?

It is a bit of a puzzler.

I'm guessing here, but from the body language of both Brink and Smith when they have been on the sidelines, Brink appears to be more engaged, talking things over with the other QBs and coaches. Smith, not so much (not as bad as Cleo Lemon sulking far away from his teammates, mind you). So maybe they prefer Brink being on the sidelines over Smith for that reason.

Like I said, just a guess.

" D. Disabled List

  1. The Commissioner shall maintain a Disabled List and a Club may, upon application to the Commissioner, transfer a player from its roster directly to the Disabled List until such time that such player has been judged by the Club Doctor to be fit to resume the obligations to the Club under the contract.

  2. The application by the Club to the Commissioner shall include:

(i) a copy of the written notice to the player of being named on the Disabled List, and

(ii) a letter from the Club Doctor describing the nature of the injury or illness and, verifying the professional opinion that the player is not completely fit to perform the obligations to the Club under the contract, and

(iii) a letter stating that, to the best of the Club General Manager’s knowledge and belief, the player's injury or illness is unrelated to an activity performed under the current or a prior contract.

  1. A player named on the Disabled List of a member Club shall be paid in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 6A of the Standard Player Contract, which is a salary per game in the amount of the lesser of $2,000 or 60% of the per game salary prescribed in paragraph 3 of the Contract.

  2. A player named on the Disabled List of a member Club shall not be eligible to play in a pre-season or regular season or post-season game, but may participate in its practice sessions.

  3. A player may be removed from the Disabled List at any time upon notification to the Commissioner accompanied by a letter of verification from the Club Doctor in whose stated professional opinion, the player is fit to resume the obligations to the Club under the contract.

  4. A member Club may at any time elect to terminate the contract of a player named on its Disabled List by requesting waivers without recall.

                       7. The Disabled List shall terminate at midnight following the Championship Game."

Ask Eskimos fans and they will tell you Higgins likes to surround himself with asskissers and boot lockers. …

Well THAT is completely untrue. A truly ridiculous comment.

But do they want to keep him?

Quoting “THAT” would have been helpful.
My guess is that you meant the “Higgins likes to surround himself…” post.
And I am uncertain whether it is sarcastic or critical of the post.

I agree that I would prefer to see Smith play rather than Brink, but will Troy not playing be worse for the team than Brink not playing?

Yes. “THAT” refers to the comment about Higgins only having lapdogs around him. I do not believe that and find it to be a ridiculous statement.

The comment infers also that Higgins wants Brink instead of Smith because Brink is an asskisser I suppose. Absurd.

To me, yes, it would be worse. Troy wasn’t great earlier in the year, but he certainly showed more than Brink, who has pretty much proven by now that he’s a short-yardage QB and nothing more. No one’s saying start him right now, but dress him as the third QB so we have a viable in-game option if Crompton struggles.

I agree with D+P that we should not limit our scouting to guys that were once drafted by the NFL. Canadian football has a long successful history of scouting the NCAA and, finding great players whom were missed by the NFL. For example, Anthony Calvillo played at Utah State, was not drafted by the NFL but, entered the CFL via the LV Posse ( this was in the CFL at the time ). When LV folded he was picked up by Hamilton. There have been hundreds of NCAA guys, in this category, who have achieved great success in the CFL.
