Based on the reactions of the players, I am thinking this is a more drastic redesign than tweaking the numbers and stripes. Monochrome black is a strong possibility.
I’m afraid, very afraid.
Like all of you, I obviously have no clue what's coming with the new uniforms, but based on the article and Bulcke's reaction I'm guessing that TravelPat is the only one that's 'fishing in the right hole' so far. I'm not expecting anything retro or anything even remotely like some of the third jersey designs we've seen before. I expect something completely new, completely unexpected, and targeting a younger crowd. I also expect something completely different than the look BC brought to the field last year. That was the pilot project, now they role it out nation wide with even more of an edge.
Whatever it is and however they look, all that matters is that we smoke the Argos!
Based on Bulcke’s reaction, I think you’re right. Nothing retro, more sleek with different. Stylized tiger stripes on much or even all of the uniform perhaps?

Not horrible, but not that exciting either, in my opinion.
The Hull City football (that other type) club, the Tigers, had a kit that is thought to be one of the ugliest of all time. But sales of that particular shirt are quite good, so from a marketing perspective, it was a success.
You never know. I could see sales of a Ticats jersey similar to this, or shirts based on it, being fairly strong.
That is one FUGLY looking jersey.....looks like a 5 yr old went nuts with a couple of magic markers....Let's hope that it doesn't look anything like that monstrosity. It looks like something that you would see someone wearing on an episode of the Flintstones !!! YUCK !!! :thdn: :thdn:
Whether it looks like that soccer jersey or not, the way the CFL is talking in their press release, it sounds like they are trying to do something a little bold and unconventional, presumably in hopes of courting a younger “hipper” demographic. So on that level, they probably assume these “signature” jerseys will be a little controversial, and they probably figure that’s a good thing. Any “old” people (myself included), who don’t like the signature jerseys likely won’t be turned off enough to boycott the league, because we’re already vested and presumably less fickle, but doing something outrageous might score them points with the younger crowd. It also might get media types talking about the league who normally wouldn’t, and that’s probably a good thing. They’re probably also hoping that doing something bold will generate some internet chatter about the league outside of the usual circles. Plus, even with the recent full league redesign, they stuck pretty close to the traditional looks for the most part. People who want traditional already have plenty of options available. It’s not like they’re going to stop making the regular jerseys any time soon.
I too don’t think that the unis will be anything retro based on the information released. Think stylized stripes and maybe gold helmet but I think they will be sharp looking. I like the BC “signature” uni except for the numbers which I think should be all orange. They did have the lion’s paw back on the helmet if I remember correctly which is a nod to Lions unis of the past.
I checked out the CFL Instagram and the first "signature unis will be unveiled beginning mid-August (16th I think) with every team having a date to display their new looks. That might give us an idea what to expect when the Ticats “look” is unveiled. The only team that seemed to be missing was the Esks, I think, for some reason. Last to be displayed will the the Als in mid-September.
Labour Day and the opening of THF is the perfect time IMO to roll out the Ticat "signature uni. Just have to win the game too which is of course FAR more important than what the players are wearing!
Why would anyone boycott the league over jerseys that will be worn twice a year? I think people need to stop caring so much. If the jerseys look sick, then great. If they look like crap, who cares?

If Green rider Jerserys are this UGLY
God Help us .
Replace the dark green with black, the light green with gold, and the wheat with random tiger stripes, it might be ok. But no stripes on the numbers, OK? that’s just weird.
Or more along these lines?

Those new Rider jerseys are awesome. They will sell a billion of them.

No kidding. Those are going to fly off the shelves. People are going to love the whole watermelon motif. Too bad they didn’t find a way to sneak a bit of watermelon pink accenting in. They might as well be printing money. Just wait and see what they start going for on ebay when the Riders Store can’t keep them on the shelves.
Clearly (and unfortunately), the fine line between 'Uniform' and 'Costume' has been crossed!

You could put green baby poop in a bag, put the Rider logo on it and their fans will buy it.

Most Rider fans seem to not like them, for obvious reasons.

The term “Clown Suit” comes to mind…
