New Defensive Players Today.

Both Mario and Torrance (sorry i forget last names here) are listed as NON IMPORTS on the roster....

whats the deal with that?

The calibre of players that have joined the CFL this year is going to make for some great games.

And...it looks like the Ticats are going to be dangerous on both sides of the ball.

Man I'm really looking forward to this year...AND...I don't think it's any coincidence that we are bringing in people who have played against the Argo's "Ricky"!

Bring on the season! :rockin:

Woody; was thinking the same thing. Has to be more than a coincidence bringing in two NFL experienced d-players at this point in training camp. Beefin up the middle with guys who probably have seen Williams before. Either way it really sounds like "Smash mouth football" this season.

I'm not sure what's with them being listed as non-imports, but it sure would be great if they actually were non-imports.

Anyway, I thought we already had quite a few talented linebackers who would not be starting linebackers on this team. Now we look even better. I'd like to see what they can do in that exhibition game. And I'm also releived that we now have news that does not involve you-know-who. Although his name will come up as these players will likely be up against him tomorrow night.

FYI here are their stats

but why are they listed as Non imports???

anyone up for answering that?

They aren't the only ones either.... WIllie Quinnie, DaVon Fowlkes and Bobby Brooks are also all listed as Non Imports on this site's roster...

whats the deal? is it a glitch in the system when entering new players?

Espo - Me thinks it be a “Cock-Up”

what i figured as well, now, but at first i was hoping there was some sort of loophole that would count them towards the Non-import count in camp.

lol

Cheers,

No such luck Espo. There are no loopholes in the CFL!

A couple of big boys with experience to keep all #27s in check?

Seriously, I don't believe the one signing has anything to do with the others. This is another example of the fine job our scouting team is doing to address our needs (and D-line wasn't even a needy area).

A guy who started for Denver and a guy who started for Green Bay. Sounds good to me.

I'm especially pumped about Torrance Marshall.....I think he will start at LB for us. (maybe not right away, but eventually)

Very nice!

Two very impressive resumes. I've been of the opinion our linebackers have been a weakness for awhile now. The blue team signing you know who may have something to do with it, but who cares...the more talent the better.

Twenty fours hours and counting...

Mike McCarthy just working his magic...that's all.

Nice work by the Ticat football operations group on the signing of defensive tackle Mario Fatafehi and linebacker Torrance Marshall. The Ticat defence will be able to show opposing offences a number of different looks this year. It should also be much tougher against the run than it was last season.

With his NFL experience as an interior lineman, and with his size (6' 2", 300 lbs), Mario Fatafehi would be a good candidate to play the nose tackle position if and when the Ticat defence uses any 3-4 defensive schemes this year.

Torrance Marshall could fit well with Bobby Brooks as inside linebackers along with Augstin Barrenechea and either Ray Mariuz or Rob Hitchcock or JoJuan Armour as outside linebackers in a 3-4 defensive scheme.

but you’d be taking Adriano Belli off the field… am i the only one that sees a problem with that? lol

I was thinking the same thing TCTD!

The line backing position is getting to be as hotly contested a position as it is for the receivers. Maybe a 3-4 formation is in the plans depending on the opponent or situation during each game? On CH sports the other night they interviewed Coach Reed and he seemed very high on Brooks. Both Brooks and Marshall are 250 lbs so maybe Auggie will see some time on the outside?

With all of the competition at linebacker I hope the secondary will improve on last year. I like what I have heard about Cody so far at camp and I would like to see how the competition at safety pans out between Shaw, Beveridge and Gordon.

Good one, Espo. Adriano Belli is sure to be on the field in the Ticats' regular 4-3 defensive scheme. He will have plenty of opportunities to "kill and kiss" some quarterbacks and running backs this year.

I agree with you, Fumbleroski, that the 3-4 formation would be available for certain situations and that the 4-3 scheme will probably be used the majority of the time.
Maybe Devonte Peterson and Mario Fatafehi will rotate at the import defensive tackle position to keep them fresh. In short yardage situations though, Fatafehi should be in there to plug up the middle.

/quote It should also be much tougher against the run than it was last season. /Quote

Is there a reason koff that we need to be better at running?

Not if Fatafehi is better. Then we have a better DT overall and less Personal foul penalties.

Anyways, Mario looked good in the NFL, but that doesn't mean he can come in here and take Belli's job. Adriano is a proven CFL player and has a lot of heart....so I guess we'll have to see what Fatafehi brings to the table when he gets here.
