Why is Chris Jones not staying. The defense looks very stable his leadership
Yes the new guy is local. But the defense looks terrific under Jones
And Calgary didn’t look all that great last year
My first guess is Jones wants a lot of money.
My second guess is Jones wants a job with more titles and responsibility then just DC
My third guess is Jones will explore coaching and scouting jobs in the USA once again.
No doubt……, but it would have been nice if the ticats could keep its fans up to date. They seem to like to cover themselves in secrecy. The CFL is in the entertainment business. Keep your fans updated!!! Chris Jones is moving on we are currently looking for a DC. That would have been nice. Or we are currently in negotiations with Chris Jones…., I swear sometimes I think the ‘Cats have contempt for their fans…., during such a long off season…., they really ought to provide more news….
Struggling teams seem to have this problem. I recall the Riders having the same issues whenever we have had team rebuild years or just bad management in charge
I liked the improvement under Chris Jones but co-ordinators come and go all the time. At one time CJ was considered to be a defensive guru but the league and offences have evolved - his defence in Edmonton round 2 wasn’t at the same level as when he had earlier successes. Hamilton got better but it was far a gem, still manhandled by Winnipeg at home, and giving up late game-winning drives on the road against the Bombers and Ottawa.
Coaches like Thorpe, Mace, Younger have likely supplanted Jones in reputation. Even the Argos did well enough with the unheralded combo of Fields and Eiben. Above all talent probably trumps everything, not matter who coaches. Stamps let a lot of guys walk in free agency since 2018, so I wouldn’t hang it all on Monson.
All from team sources and team content. The team controls everything - all messaging, all media, all Social Media, everything.
There was ZERO info on CJ and this hiring until it happened. The TEAM has been quite opaque about this. This has also been happening for the past few years.
I think some people expect way too much from the team regarding personnel moves and transparency.
Lets say, hypothetically, the Cats were in hard negotiations with CJ over the last month behind closed doors. What exactly would they report until now?
I’m at the point where I don’t care anymore about all these type of details. Just get the best players and staff that you can and let’s go!
I don’t get input. I don’t care the process. Get the best you can get, and I’ll complain about the results. I have no right to know the inner workings of the team. No one does. A season ticket holder does not get that right. The only right the season ticket actually gets you, is the right to enter the stadium and sit in the same seat for a season on game night. That’s it. Nothing more.
My point is/was….the CFL is a very small league…., I think the Grey Cup attracted jus over a million fans on TV this year…, our games our not doing well attendance wise….(just look at entire sections empty and also empty seats throughout other sections…), the CFL and the cats need fans…., so therefore they should take advantage of any opportunity to provide news…, and hopefully interest…us old timers will probably always tune in….but for how much longer…, the cats are well…, they are what they are…, hope they are still around in 15-20 years…, and as far as the coverage from ticats audio…, go ahead…, enjoy the Kool-aid lol.
Atleast with Brent Monson as our new DC we will see changes on Defense. When Calgary had good players in 2019 4th best Defense, 2021 3rd best Defense and then 22 they had the 2nd bets defense. In 2023 and 2024 when your HC and GM does give a dang about your club you can only do so much with the defense hinse 6th and 8th in 23 and 24. So I’m sure we will see some big changes on defense this off-season.
The words “CHRIS JONES” & “ORGANIZATIONAL PROBLEM” are interchangeable.
Jones has a legacy of proving to be nothing more than an organizational problem despite his vast football knowledge and early success in one CFL market.
He’s now a coaching nomad with a business card that reads:
CHRIS JONES, Former Championship Coach Have Electronic Clipboard - Will Travel
Wire: Paladin, San Francisco ‘’
NB: 3 FREE bottles of cherry juice for every interview granted
I would like to think that when Chris Jones supplanted Mark Washington as the Grand Poobah on the defensive side, that it was not already a foregone conclusion (on the part of Coach Milanovich & the President of Football Ops) that retaining Chris Jones in a similar role for 2025 (& beyond?) was not part of the plan !!!
If this was the plan all along, what was the point?? What was the objective??
Just a desperate attempt to save/salvage the 2024 season??
Or perhaps just a means of determining if the problem on the defensive side of the ball was exclusively Mark Washington?? Or inferior talent ?? Or the combination of the two ??
I will admit that I have never been a fan of Chris Jones’ arrogance & I took great pleasure in the fact that his Edmonton Elkimos were a complete mess, but the man knows how to scheme & coach on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage in the CFL. Good luck to you, Mr. Jones . . .
The fact that Jones came for “free”, it was a convenient and opportunistic way of getting rid of Washington and not blowing the operations cap.
We had nothing to lose at that point as our defense was horrendous.
