Well it's not an emergency department of a hospital so some delay is ok I would say.
It’s how the industry works.
The public desires infrastructure, a large project (like a stadium). The govt spends money on the project that is not their own (taxpayers). If the govt is conservative (or in BC Liberal) the developers line up at the trough for the contracts since they are all buddies with the ministers. If the govt is Labor, the unions all line up at the trough for the contracts since they are all buddies with the ministers.
Either way, once the contracts are signed and the shovels go in the ground, the project is a complete waste unless it gets completed, so the contractors and the unions KNOW BLOODY WELL, that it doesn’t matter how much over time and over budget it goes, the govt has to keep paying out the cheques to finish the project because a half a stadium = no stadium. And the LONGER IT DRAWS OUT, the more money is made. Get it?
That is why these public works projects are ALWAYS way over time and way over budget. That is how the industry makes its profit. It’s sick but it’s true.
So get ready in Hamilton for the same damn crap with Ivor Wynne.
A private project works much differently.
don't forget, the big picture is to add a casino / hotel built into - or onto - bc place stadium. so i think, combined with the casino the government is supposed to make 100% of its total investment back in 5 years time from the competion of the casino. then it's all profit / added tax revenue.
im sure building a new and fancy hotel next to bc place stadium the way it was, probably would have looked very odd.
But it is still possible to do that while still being on time and on budget. But they won’t do that.
