New 2012 Jersey Designs?

these are the coolest jerseys ever, IMO:

Those are retro jerseys (and helemts)

The “retro” unis in the modern-day picture were from the season when all teams wore unis throwing back to the 1970s. The Argos never wore anything resembling those unis in the 1970s. They always had pants stripes, sleeve stripes and some light blue on their uni throughout the 1970s. Are we now to believe that the Argo retros from two years ago were based on a 1960s design as modeled by Dick Shatto (for which we seem to have only a black-and-white picture, and which also resembles a practice outfit)?

But they’re slightly wrong. The white portion of the shoulder should have a black, gold trimmed number.

Later on, the put the logo in there and put a gold, number above it on the black portion of the jersey.

Are you sure? 2009 was 60’s. 2010 was 70s

You’re right!

Wonder if they got lazy cuz the stripes were so low, under the number and current jerseys don’t have such sleeves.

Even the above pictured Saskatchewan retro jerseys fail to incorporate the lower`stripes beneath the number, perhaps for eh same reason.<

Check out this video of the 1970 Argos, which clearly shows the stripes on their sleeves. (BTW, check out the old car commercial, and check out the quick kick later on.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03Ems4hj3R4

But they could have done what other teams do such as Green Bay. Move everything up

Lazy doesn’t begin to describe it. No stripes anywhere, and no use whatsoever of one of the team’s two primary colours (which are so important in the team’s history that their nickname is Double Blue). It was unbelievably disappointing to see that was what they came up with (it was used in both 2010 and - once, I think – in 2011).

I like the Argos Alternate Jersey's, but then again I used to play highschool football for Westmount, so I may be a bit biased.

Anyways here's a link I found from the Ti-Cats alumni association, it's too big to fit in the forum.

I like the 90s jersey, but I don't think it would work out so well with the new logo on the shoulder pads, unless you worked some red into it.

Well that is not exactly true. In 1974, and for one season only, the Argos wore the exact jersey they used as the 70's retro jersey. There were absolutely no sleeve stripes on either their home or road jersey. The helmets used in '74 had two white stripes down the middle and the pants had a small double blue stripe down the side. The helmets that they wore with the retro jerseys were what the team wore from 1969 to 1973, while the plain white pants were from the mid-sixties, making the uniform combo not exactly correct.

yes, the riders 3rd jerseys are definitely retro inspired, but not officially retro, as they were not the the jerseys they wore for the league’s retro 60’s or 70’s weekends in 2009 and 2010, respectively. the riders had red and black 60’s uniforms made for that 60’s weekend, and a different green and white jersey made for the 70’s weekend. also, the CFL logo on the riders 3rd jersey is the normal league logo, not the ‘retro’ leaf logo that is on the official retro jerseys.

when i said, i’d like the cat’s to have 70’s jerseys, i don’t mean they have to be exact copies. just inspired. which the jerseys in the pic i posted is. i’d love them to wear the jerseys in the pic i posted, along with the current black helmets and logo, as well as gold pants with one think black stripe running down the leg. that would be total bad-a**

That's Ronnie handing off to George Reed eh dg? Super pic.

I’d love to know your source for that. I just pulled out my copy of the 1975 Argo media guide. There aren’t many pictures in it and most of them show the light blue unis that came into effect for the 1975 season, but there is a group picture of the entire 1974 team and the jerseys clearly have white and light blue sleeve stripes. It’s not possible to see whether there are any pants stripes but they definitely did not have stripe-less sleeves when they posed for the 1974 team picture. There is also a pcture of Zenon Andrusyshyn posing with his team MVP award and the jersey he is wearing is dark blue with light blue and white sleeve stripes. It’s possible they wore jerseys with no sleeve stripes in the preseason that year, but I am extremely dubious that they ever wore sleeves with no stripes in the regular season at any point in the 1970s. If anyone has any evidence to counter this, I would really like to see it.

The red and black uniforms were not for the 60s, they were the 100th anniversary uniforms from 2010.

Those jerseys you posted were for the 60s, not the 70s. The guy wearing the #1 jersey is former WR Chris Davis. When the Cats wore the 70s retros, Arland Bruce wore #1. Also, Prechae Rodriguez (#85) was not on the team in 2010 (when they wore the 70s jerseys); he was traded to Saskatchewan in the off-season.

There is one scene in this video clip that shows stripes on their sleeves, but there are several others without stripes on both the white and blue jerseys. I’m a little surprised.

Here's some pics dated 1974

The mystery deepens. I would bet those stripe-less sleeves were worn only in preseason. The only pix and video I've seen of the home (dark blue) uni with no sleeve stripes are against the Ticats. The white ones seems to have been worn against Hamilton and Ottawa although the latter (the Mike Rae picture) is hard to be sure about. Eastern teams played four preseason games on those days so it's possible the Argos would have played both home and away against Hamilton and at least one game against Ottawa.

Trust me pw13, the Argos wore stripeless jerseys for the whole 1974 season, home and away, not just the pre-season. I have several scrapbook photos from that year and all photos show no sleeves on the jerseys.

I’d love to trust you, but how do you explain the fact that the team picture for 1974 shows them wearing striped sleeves, and so does the photo of Zenon A receiving the 1974 Team MVP trophy? And that rookie of the year Cvijanovich is shown wearing stripes in some of the video highlights? The idea they wore no stripes all season long, home and away, is contradicted by the evidence.

Lots of new info on the jersey re-design.
