Don’t disagree … was addressing your reference to the mid-late rounds … those can get advanced if teams see a need and someone else pounces
Ti-Cats aren’t really light. We have a top three centre, a very good left guard, an up and coming right guard going into his third year and a still somewhat young right tackle in Saxelid. Plus depth with CVZ , Fontana and guy. It would be nice to a Bull, but I think the the Ti-Cats have bigger needs at defensive back.
Stamps seem to have good a starters on the interior and a backup in Bell, who has played every position except RG.
The guard from Western is probably the most pro ready outside of Bull, Bergeron and Sow (All three will probably get NFL looks). I could see him challenging Evan Johnson for the right guard spot.
It is the way…
So what if they get a NFL “Look” ? When has this prevented teams from drafting Offensive linesmen before? Bergeron is a different matter all together as he projects to be a 2nd to 4th round draft pick.
In the 2020 CFL draft (the draft where all CFL genius GM/scouts (except the Bombers who didn’t have a chance, but they would have too) passed on picking Nathan Rourke when they had the chance, the 3rd ranked prospect by the CFL Scouting Bureau was O-lineman Carter O’Donnell - a U Sports product; who after he FA signed in the NFL was not picked till the 3rd round of that CFL draft. CFL GMs are very cognizant of NFL interest on potential CFL draft picks now; compared to past days when the CFL draft was held earlier than the NFL’s, and CFL teams drafted pretty well all top NCAA Canadians, regardless of NFL flight risk.
and there are plenty of examples of guys picked in round 1 and 2. Sometimes it pays off (Lestage, Desquoy) and sometimes it does not Ogbongbemiga picked at #8…in 2021… NFL interest is not a factor. NFL draftee that is something else entirely. Montreal and Ottawa both have 3 picks in the top 15 or so, Each of these teams will draft at least one future
??? - you just finished saying "so what if they get a NFL “look”; so I provided the example of O’Donnell who was not an NFL draft but whose signing there scared off CFL teams from using a pick on him in the first 2 rounds. You seem pretty sure of yourself however, with “guarantees” and such.
It prevents them from drafting them high in the CFL draft, if they’ve gone high in the NFL. Bergeron will go in thr first three rounds of the NFL draft. A CFL team could use a 7th round pick, like Chubba Hubbard.
You pick one guy. ONE I’ve given you two examples of guys who had similar NFL interest and were picked early in the second round and there are many, many more like these two guys. Very few end up having a career in the NFL. We will see in five weeks time anyway.
I will weigh in on this that every year teams go for the oline first depth is what they want
Except for in a weak Oline class. You will see more DBs and DLs go in the first two rounds. I could see maybe four offensive players in total, because even the linebacker talent isn’t bad.
I think it depends on if any of the CFL teams are willing to take an early pick shot at one or more of the NCAA guys who will likely draw NFL interest (quite a few this draft). And NFL draft and subsequent FA signs will tell the story somewhat there.
Speculation that recently added NCAA receiver Cole Tucker could go first round? - he did put up a pretty good set of testing #s at his pro day (though several of the CFL Combine receivers had faster 40 times); a lot of CFL thinkers favor NCAA ball resumes over proven U Sports all-stars.
Very deep DB class this draft IMO - mostly guys who will get a CFL look at safety, but also could play STs right away - might see 4 or 5 go first couple of rounds, which would be CFL draft unusual.
Are you putting down that more DB’s will be drafted in the first two round than offensive linesmen?
Yep - I’ll take that bet. I get to include Jon Sutherland (listed as a DB but also could be considered a LB/DB hybrid; as would Jake Taylor (Alberta) maybe. And Sydney Brown who will quite likely be an NFL draft pick and then next to no way he gets drafted CFL 1st two rounds.
That’s fair
Safety, but last year we started seeing more and more Canadians get playing time at SLB, which is typically an American position.
Makonzo started several games for the Elks
Dalke got playing time with the Rider’s
Kramdi started a game for the Bomber’s
Sutherland and Taylor fit the mold of of a SLB.
Maybe; Makonzo was the only real starter though; I’ll believe it when I see more of it ; still a position reserved mostly for Americans in the “radical” league; like D-half is; a number of these guys are experienced & accomplished D-halfs and in Canadian ball, but will get no real chance there; and be converted to safety or be considered back-up D-backfielders in general. Not much movement in same old thinking with corners either - Bagayogo could be the rare National who gets a shot to play corner ?
I hope so. Tired of guys not being able to play their college position. It used to be halfbacks would have to convert to fullbacks, that seems to have changed. Even guys who played tackle in college are getting converted to guard, instead of just developing them at tackle.
