TORONTO - NHL hockey returned to Winnipeg Tuesday because a lot of serious people worked quietly and professionally to make it happen.

How did they do it?

By keeping confidential discussions with the commissioner and other league officials confidential. By putting themselves in the right position at the right time.

What they didn’t do was shoot their mouths off, making ill-advised statements.

Which brings us to Toronto and Mayor Rob Ford’s brother, Coun. Doug Ford.

when you elect a mayor you should at least elect someone you think has a good chance of surviving till the end of his term...
I mean I'm not fatalist but seriously...

If Ford wants people to be more attracted to Toronto tourism... we need a more attractive public figurehead who won't collapse at any moment under the weight of his own girth...

There will be interest in any league if someone shows the money bigtime though. I guarantee you to a tee if someone said to Bettman, here’s $600 mill or so for a team for Hamilton and I’ll toss another $100 mill to MLSE to keep them happy and another $100 mill to Buffalo, there would be an NHL team in Hamilton as fast as you can say whatever.

If some group in Toronto has big bucks and shows they will build a super NFL type stadium, not the easiest thing to do in a sport where you only play some 8-10 home games in a season, the NFL will listen.

Actually that is exactly what Basille did and Bettman blacklisted him. The Coyotes could have been playing in ON next season alongside the Thrashers. Jim B was willing to pay ALOT more than Winnipeg did for a team.

And on a total tangent, the NFL needs a team in LA (and a couple other cities) more than Toronto

Well I think the NHL wants more money from another s Ont team than what JB was going to pay for the Coyotes.

The NFL isn't moving to Toronto anytime soon, people know this, the Ford's just need to be "the show" and make.themselves feel important. There is no group I'm aware of that is looking to spend the money at this time in these economic.times for the NFL. Heck, even an NFL haven like SF is having a hard time building a new stadium with a team that has made millions over the years.

Okay, I watched it. It was interesting. But I just can't agree with most of Mr. Cauz's positions, other than his initial statement that the CFL and the Argos could survive with the NFL in TO. Jersey sales would go up and that is all it takes?? Okay, then .... And boy, is he loud! And given his employer, I was expecting at first that the two guests would be taking opposite stands.
