MR. Cohon try to get TSN to have, CFL This Week Show

Such as a video game perhaps?

kel

The CBC do a CFL video game? It doesn't really fit, and that's not exactly a creative idea. That's more of an extension of a very old idea.

Come on rpaege, your posts are always good, you know he wasn't talking about the CBC doing a video game.

A very old idea indeed, one that should be realized VERY soon.

I misunderstood Kel because I was quoted referring to the CBC doing something creative.

There really should be a CFL game, even if it's not a full-featured one and is only produced in relatively small numbers.

I liken the outright ignorance displayed by the CFL and video game manufacturers to the westernized nations of our world being more worried about our economic stability and growth in a time when (leading scientists and ecologists point out that according to the numbers and the physical evidence) the earths ever more fragile future is at stake. Obviously the latter situation is of a far more serious nature(no pun intended) and consequence..

The apparent fact is that a CFL video game would almost ensure a strong f-u-t-u-r-e with it's appeal to children and provide a current marketing bonanza for the CFL in a marketplace more profitable now than in the past timeframes when attempts have been made for such a product. We are the 11th hour, and it truly is now or never for the CFL video game. Maybe even the leagues future, I fear.

PS Rpaege, I apologize for not quoting you properly. My beliefs remain that the CBC(while my favorite CFL network ever) will have no impact on anything CFL, for TSN's term of coverage, be it 8 or 9 years.

My guess (and it's nothing more than that) is that the reason a video game has not been created is not that the league hasn't thought of it, but rather that they don't expect it to be as lucrative and impactful as those who very badly want one think it will be.

A CFL game needs to be a promotional tool and really nothing more. If it is produced with that in mind then it won't matter that it's not a mega-hit and sells only a 10K copies (or whatever). In fact, the CFL (or sponsors who could have advertisements within the game, such as on the field and around the stadiums) should pay for the production of the game and either give it away or sell it for cost.

A solid, yet pessimistic, guesstimation. It’s no secret that that is exactly what the CFL and manufacturers have concluded. If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard that one. Its a proven fact that the CFL has far more fans than the Arena Football League. We know this through the attendance statistics of both leagues that we study and along with video game sales statistics, that determines more or less our marketplace. Here are the numbers courtesy of wikipedia:

Avg. attendance in CFL reg. season for 2007 = 29,438/game for a total of 2,100,016 in 72 games in a season.

Avg. attendance in AFL reg. season for 2007 = 12,415/game for a total of 1,887,054 in 144 games in a season.

This also courtesy of wikipedia:

“The first video game based on the AFL was Arena Football for C-64 released in 1988. On May 18, 2000, Kurt Warner’s Arena Football Unleashed was released by Midway Games for the Playstation game console. On February 7, 2006 EA Sports released Arena Football for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. EA Sports released another AFL video game, titled Arena Football: Road to Glory, on February 21, 2007, for PlayStation 2.”

There are hundreds of stories similar to this Gamespot article from 2006. With the recent release of GTA4, last years Halo 3, and the Guitar Hero/Rock Band phenomena, the numbers have only improved in the following years. Check it out:

Now this only my opinion, but with all of these factors considered, the lack of serious attention by the CFL and the video game manufacturers is disappointing, embarrassing and insulting for fans of the league(who think it matters internationally) and for fans of gaming in general who together have all the options in the world but one that we really want.

A video game is WAY past due, it's sad I'm beginning to sound like a broken record on this topic however :frowning:

Cohon said when he took over ti would be a priority, I wonder where this is all at right now.
