Its all how you identify these days😵💫, but London and the Tri Cities are both big enough for a team each, Woodstock population over 50,000 would be a great central location for a Stadium at the 401/403 junction, if it was for one team for central South West Ontario, or for both teams _ London and TriCities ?
They have an 8 thousand seat stadium. I’m no architect, but it looks like it can be expanded. There is only the jr hockey team , so there is very little competition . The city has a football history with the University of Weetern. The league could try to backload a lot of there home games at the end of August and into September and October when the population increases because of the University. I think they could get 20000 fans a game. The problem is finding an owner. Anyways that’s my crazy idea.
I am puzzled…I thought the entertainment IS the football game. I am a pure fan…all the half-time stuff, the tailgate stuff, I can do without. Just a post-game meal. Although, a stinker of a game is no fun, after spending big coin, and blowing a whole day with travel.
5 million plus in the GTA, and they can’t draw flies for a CFL game. I know they have a diverse population, many of whom don’t have a CFL background, or North American football, period, and there is competition for entertainment dollars, but still… And, I have been at Jays and Leaf games. So many are disinterested in what is happening on the field. Sitting behind the batter’s box, where all those gazillionaires sit, I saw so many on their phones constantly, mostly doing business…and probably had company tickets. Leaf fans more into it.
Jon, I am with you. I wouldn’t go across the street to watch Taylor Swift even if they were giving away free beer…OK strike that last part.
The other problem is finding the political will to expand the and upgrade the stadium.
There is no political will, non sports fans do not see any benefits to spending hundreds of millions of taxpayers dollars on a football stadium that is only used 9 or 10 times.
What happened with OSEG in Ottawa is not going to happen anywhere else in Canada, a private/public project.
just like I dont see any point in spending money on art galleries or million dollar stripes
Assuming the University plays ball
Possibly so…on the nuts part
Hosting the 2026 Common Wealth Games would be a good pitch for government funding a stadium, finding a promotional company to co own and put on concerts and other events would make it sustainable.
I think you mean taxpayer funding. But the 2026 Commonweath Games are being held in Australia.
Then you didn’t get my meaning. I’m sure Doman took money from Victoria for them to host the event. It adds tourist dollars to their economy and they are interested in that sort of thing. The fact that Doman already has money and he’s not trying to get rich being a CFL owner is irrelevant.
The backed out, from what I can find no replacement has been selected.
Glasgow is considering it.
Hamilton was looking at 2030 but the provincial government said no.
Alberta later did a feasibility study on a province wide games that year too but said no.
The Commonwealth Games themselves may not exist much longer.
Ah, I see - more of a Cher guy. Well she’s bound to pop up - everybody does eventually.
Seriously though, it’s a tragedy that one of the great R & R bands of all time, the Guess Who, isn’t in the Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Too long overlooked. On that, Jon, I believe we can both agree,
So…are you in on Cher???
Looks like Danielle is in with a new arena in Calgary. But I agree, the appetite is gone for funding these projects & it’s not just non-sports fans.
I could have explained better.
The game is THE entertainment. The in game experience is everything around the game. I used to goo to riders games and watch each play live, then watch the reply on the screen. Now most plays are not shown on the screen after. Then there is al the advertising or entertainment factors between plays, commercial breaks, half time etc. in Sask, it seems bush league to me. Same old same old game after game nothing changes. The majority of the entertainment seems geared towards a very rural demographic… fair enough it is Sask, but it seems old, dry and lacking in creativity. When I went to BC for the game in July it was exciting, it felt more modern and the energy in that part of the entertainment was better. I’m sure some of it was just that it was different which I appreciated. I also really like being at away rider games so there’s that too.
I am also tired of tired of dedicating most of a day (5 hour round trip, 3 hour game, 1 hour dealing with traffic) for what has amounted to a sub 500 team since 2021. I will always watch and support my team, but there isn’t much Corey Mace can say to get me to come back to Regina until there is a consistent winning team in the field.
if so, get off her
No on Cher. Yes on The Guess Who.
