More Than 20,000 Tickets Sold for Alouettes Home Opener
Montreal Alouettes News Release June 14, 2024

Montreal - Six days before the Alouettes open their 2024 home schedule, the team announced that more than 20,000 tickets have been sold for the event. The Als will raise their 2023 Grey Cup championship banner prior to kick-off.

Another interesting fact is that hockey player and Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin will open the cage before the game. Fans will also see a performance by the Quebec band “Comment Debord” before the game, and at halftime, Kaïn will take the stage.

During the national anthem, two CF-18 jets from the 425 Squadron in Bagotville will fly over the stadium.

“This will be a match not to be missed where we will commemorate the Alouettes’ championship-winning season by unveiling our championship banner before the game,” said Alouettes President and CEO Mark Weightman. “We hope fans come early for the pre-game show to be part of the festivities. It will be a great celebration with many new features at the stadium. We expect fans to turn out in large numbers!”

Fans will also be able to see the new state-of-art giant screen at Percival Molson Stadium.

i would like to get to the point where the Als open and close the season at the Big O, but we’ll have to wait four years for that to happen.

A mere 20,000 when Vancouver had over 50,000. Lions deserve GC for their fan support.

To be fair, these 20k+ are coming to watch a football game. How many went to BC for a 50 Cent concert and got to watch a football game for free?

30k tickets were sold before the concert was announced so let’s nip that in the bud.

Well it’s kind of hard to sell more than 20k when that’s about how much your stadium holds. It’s hard to get an accurate depiction of what the Molson stadium capacity is.

At one point after the new upper deck was built it was around 25k. Then they removed some endzone seating and then tarped off some sections. I’ve seen 23 420 but it’s not clear whether that includes the tarped sections or not and I don’t know if those sections are being tarped this year or for the first game.

Game attendance is up this year, that is, for the CFL a beautiful thing. If every team has an uptick regardless of stadium capacity, it’s positive. I’m looking forward to watching the CFL for the next 100 years, from the care home for the final 15 years or so if necessary.

A full house in Montreal is a 2 million dollar gate, add another half a million for concessions or more and its a good day for the team.

The Montreal Gazette called it a sellout at 23,035

After the team unveiled its eighth Grey Cup banner in the east end zone during a pre-game ceremony, it produced a show for the capacity crowd of 23,035. It marked the club’s first sellout since Jacques Chapdelaine’s initial game as head coach in September 2016.

Every shot of the crowd looked packed - and rocking.

Attendance was up three thousand from the year before which was up three thousand from the year before that

And there appeared to be many younger fans in attendance which is another positive.

The Lion’s 50K looked to have a lot of families with young kids, all wearing at least one piece of Lion merch (hat or shirt)

Hervey has no direct attachment to ANY of the QBs on the roster … it will be interesting to see who ends up HC and OC, and how that impacts the QB position going forward.

Won’t comment on whether Hervey is the right choice, but it is the right choice to have settled this now and give him time to “get to work”.
