Moratorium of coaching movement imposed by CFL

That’s ok but the Commish is there to make sure, they don’t “shoot” each other and protect the league and everyone attached fans included from themselves. Its even more true in a league where a third of the team are non for profit entities and the rest guys on their own dime.

They have a letter saying he quit… He can ask for his job back, they can say yes or no. I don’t think the plan is to banish him from working but whoever wants him will now have to do it by the book and it will be up to the Als when, how and depending on who asks and what is offered to decide.

If it was me I’d ask for two first rounders or the value of his contract as monetary compensation. If nobody wants to pay, he sits and wait.

Or they can sue him and wait for the courts to sort it out. Huge clutter in Quebec courts right now.

BS. The watchword this year was continuity. With all the changes the team had gone through, Popp wanted to keep Thorpe at DC so he could continue to build the defense. Kavis being elevated to assistant HC has nothing to do with Thorpe. As for being passed over, let's back up. Thorpe has three years experience as a DC. Show me where that entitles him to HC consideration. Furthermore, there is no indication that Thorpe was in consideration for the HC job. That's just innuendo.

We gave Thorpe a chance when he was coaching CIS, we allowed him to build a reputation as a top DC in this league, we made him assistant HC. How does any of that translate to a lack of appreciation?

In that situation I would want to quit as well wouldn't you? I would go anywhere else where I might be better appreciated.
This isn't a millennial validation clinic. :) You and I have feelings, sure. In such a situation, we might want certain things. We all do. I'd like to be independently wealthy! But realistically and practically, there are constraints on what we can do and where we can go to work. When you sign a contract, you undertake to fulfill that contract. If you have misgivings about it, you either live with those misgivings or you ask your employer to be released from it so you can pursue work elsewhere. In the latter case, though, you had better make sure your actions are legal or it will come back to bite you. Doesn't matter how much you hate your job.
In a perfect world and contractually you may be correct BUT this is not a perfect world.

Here is an example. " You are a Night Auditor at a Hotel. (A very important and in demand position btw) You have years of experience and feel that you are ready to advance in management. You apply and are told you don’t have enough experience we will give you a buck more and hour and call you night manager. The hotel then tellsthe other full time night auditor you get a buck an hour more and are now a Night Manager too. The next year your friend is hired as a General manager at a hotel in the city calls you up and says Quit the hotel and come work with me I’ll hire you as Front Office manager for more money and looks much better in a CV.

What do you do stay in a job with no prospects or go where you are advancing yourself? I understand where Noel Thorpe is coming from and would go to the other position.

Again… Don’t know too many hotel clerks with six figure contracts and multi-year deal.

At most major Hotels Night Auditors are considered Management and on yearly contracts that are auto renewed. And no there are no six figure contracts but it is usually the highest paid position in the front office besides the department head.

Hmmm you may be right. He did resign.

I guess according to Edmonton fans any team could call Mass offer him a a better deal they would take no issue with him leaving.

The guy who's also looking ridiculous through all of this is Hervey.
And he's already on record saying he tampers and has been fined for doing so.
He's a goof.

Unrealistic to think the Als will pay two guys to do the same job as they can not prevent Thorpe from earning a living, contract or not. The Als will have to accept whatever pittance they get as compensation and it won’t be anything close to what you are suggesting.

They forgot to send the note to Riderville

Brian

They asked to talk to Jones and got the green light.

Pigeye

I think its going to be bigger then most are expecting.

I think the Commish is a little late to the party. He should of been out their when Lawless leaked the story of Chris Jones and the Riders 30 min before kick off at the Grey Cup. He may have avoided this whole mess .

Hervey was the only one who had the balls to speak up about what's going on by all teams so the Commish tried to shut him up by slapping a fine on him.

The real ones who have lost here is the Eskimos they lost their coach and all its coaching staff and now the commish wants to shut down all coaching transactions, kinda late I think or convenient for the Riders. Maybe the league needs to do a full reset and start over .

It's a big Joke that now some Rider fans are on here posting about coaches honouring contracts and tampering..

The owners are fining themselves, the league office won’t have a say in it. You can forget about any sort of punitive damages either.

Might not be a fine in the typical sense could be a Edmonton has to offer free tickets for one game this would hit the more then any typical fine.

Als aren’t preventing anything, as far as the league is concerned. Thorpe is under contract with the Als. As far as Thorpe is concerned he’s a free agent. I suppose Thorpe can sue the if he wants, not cheap and it takes a while, especially in Quebec. I"m sure Wetenhall will be happy to oblige him. His CEO is a fine lawyer.

Reality is No team can sign Thorpe until the Als say go and the Als can keep him in limbo at least until the season starts without it costing them a dime or longer if Thorpe goes there.

Out of self-preservation his Buddies in Edmonton are going to run the other way and Thorpe will soon go into the same self-preservation mode and spell out the whole deal to Orridge also out of self-preservation.

Not sure how many teams are going to wait till spring or until his litigation is done to hire a traitor but who knows. This is the CFL, you can even find employment after pleading to sexually assaulting a minor…

Its true that the Eskimos were the first loser or domino but Hervey encouraged Jones… What was the commish to do ? If he said NO you can’t speak to my HC he’s under contract for another year and the Riders pursue him then sure. Austin and Mitchell had no problem telling Hervey to go pound Sand.

I don't think he encouraged Jones, but I don't think he wanted to get in the way of a promotion for Jones, but I also don't think that Hervey thought he would lose all his coaching staff.
I bet after Hervey got fined for bringing to the attention of everyone about tampering and got fined for it . He just said, " the hell with this " and went out and poached his own staff is it right . No. But what was he suppose to do.
Convenient that Orridge decides now to speak up after the Riders have completed filling in all their coaching staff. Is this the way Orridge is going to ensure parity in the league by playing God? Bush league.

Everything was done in legit fashion concerning the Riders, the issue is with Thorpe that got Orridge’s attention.

Oh yes I forgot the Riders are completely innocent in all of this .

Go watch the pregame of the Esks and Calgary in the West final. Lawless is on there “leaking” as you say, the news way back then, as well as Lapolice to Winnipeg as O.C. and a few other predictions. After you watch that, then go read the newspapers from week 19 of the regular season. Lawless “leaks” the same news way back then. Where do get get this 30 min before Grey Cup crap???
