Montréal @ Edmonton

CFL refs are the worst of any professional sport. Period.

THAT throw to Giguere is a perfect example of why Glenn is not a long-term solution

Tanner Marsh why you keep F&$@king us up!

Tanner Marsh has only proven he can do one thing consistently well, and then he blows that one thing to kill a chance for an exciting 33-29 (33-30?) finish.

Let Bridges play next week?

Good. This franchise -- especially Wetenhall and Popp -- got exactly what it deserved. It would have been false and absurd to sneak into the playoffs given the clustereff of this season. Missing the playoffs in a nine-team league is not something you can dress up or minimize. No lipstick on this pig.

Time to make big changes.

Big changes need to happen, but they won't. IMO this franchise will be in the league's hands within five years.

Turnover Marsh strike again... otherwise great 3 1/2 quarter of football from the rest of the team especially sutton.

Edmonton eviscerated our D from start to finish, dominated time of possession. If you think that’s a great three quarters of football, we have a fundamental difference of opinion on what constitutes great, with no disrespect intended.

Im actually happy we lost. Popp doesnt look like jesus and the team sucks plain and simple. Actually it looks like half the team just didnt give a caca anymore. Its gonna take a recking ball to fix this crap. Glenn is signed for next year? Great the year after that will be in the same boat searching for another qb.

I thought the Als were done a few weeks ago. They seemed at that time to have emotionally checked out. At least some of them. Popp was coaching exactly like I thought he would and he was losing the team just like I thought he would. But just like the true irrational fan I am, I decided to watch today's game even though I sincerely believed that the Als not only deserved to miss the playoffs but needed to! The Als played well and hung with the Esks for a while. All the time though it seemed they were just teasing and they would once again find a way to lose. Higgins, Popp and now Thorpe, it doesn't matter, they find a way to screw it up when a win is in sight. And if they don't, the refs make sure of it. Today was no different. Tanner the turnover made sure that the playoffs never happened with that pathetic attempt to protect the football. Even his teammates were too disgusted to console the bumbling oaf on the sidelines. All in all, one of the worst seasons for the Als since their return to Montreal. Brings me back to the days of the Concordes and the Skalbania Als in my childhood. Popp, for the love of God get a good coach in here for next season. This year was horrendous!!

Several posts ago I noted that the Als most definitely require both a new coach and, a new first rate QB and, the rest of the 2016 team will fall in place with the requirement of some younger and faster newcomers. Today's game was interesting, especially the ground attack featuring Sutton demonstrating his great power. His sidekick Rutley also kicked in with 53 yards running. Looking back I have felt the offense shows best when both these backs are in the game. Glen has showed in the past two games the ability that a decent play maker, and, passer can accomplish with the team. Now is the moment that Popp, and his team of scouts must step up a recruitment drive to find some younger and faster players. To start this process Tanner Marsh must go. I don't see anyone lining up to purchase this team so, it appears Wetenhall will continue to fund the team and would like Popp to continue as GM.
They have spent 19 positive managing this franchise which has mostly been positive, excluding the last couple of years.
There are a number of fans who appear to be impatient and, damn the team with their words. We don't need a wrecking ball and, to say" good" in writing about the loss today, does in no way support the team. I've lived through periods when the team, after losing in past years became frustrated and listless. I've seen this change when Etcheverry became the league's leading passer. Add 10 years of dismay, Sonny Wade a really good QB led the Team to a Grey Cup win and finally, I was there when Calvillo, coached by Trestman, brought the team two Grey Cups. Now there is descent from some fans who call for a revolution wanting to toss out the management that has brought a decade of great success. The pass did tell us we needed a QB and, we again are in a situation that calls for a new coach. We have had have similar situations with past years, and require, again some change at HC and at QB.

Glenn is a bandaid that Popp tried to fix his ego with. He is signed for next year. Okay and after that? Back to square one. Cato better get a bloody membership at Popeys or get in touch with Canseco and put needles up his butt to gain some mass. U really think its a tweek here and there and all is good? Cox, Brown and Parker are pretty much done. Who do we have to replace them? Coady? Lol. This team will be in basement for a few years my boy. Happy thoughts though we never know.

Well, this wacky season went just about the way it seemed to be headed from the get-go.

The O, for the most part, can still make noise, O-line - good. RBs Very good! Receivers? An addition or two will make them very competitive.

On D, some serious injuries and we need better DHs. A few ageing veterans here and there.

So, there are definitely going to be moves in the off-season, starting with a great HC. Anthony as OC? Too early to make any definitive statement, especially with the unexpected moves this year. With a whole year to prepare, we'll have a better idea next season.

For me, my attention is now on the Fighting Irish for the rest of the football season. They are still in the mix for the FBS championship - GO IRISH!

See you next season!

Is it normal for one man to GM a franchise for 19 years? No, it's not. That is an abnormally long time in the world of pro sports. Popp is past his best-before date with the team, and so is Wetenhall. The team needs new ownership, new vision, and a restart from the Popp era, not least because nobody of quality is going to want to coach here as long as Popp is GM and Wetenhall reserves the option to parachute the GM in midseason after firing the coach.

You guys think this is nothing -- it's not. This franchise has gone under before and is in serious danger of going under again.

And yes, I repeat 'good' for the loss. Because making the playoffs would have allowed Wetenhall to put lipstick on this particular pig. Now that we're out, there is absolutely no hiding from the franchise dysfunction. If he can't make the kind of changes that are needed, then he should sell the team to someone who can.

Both Wetenhall and Popp were great for the Alouettes. But the key word is 'were.' They are no longer good for us today. It's not personal, it's just life. Everyone hits their best-before date. W and P are no different. Time for them to move on. Wetenhall should sell the team to someone younger, with a dynamic vision of how to rebuild the Als both on the field and in the city of Montreal, and Popp should go chase that NFL dream in earnest, or else start over with another CFL franchise.

And one more thing: Calgary had to move on from Wally Buono to get to where they are today with Hufnagel. Hugh Campbell eventually left Edmonton, but now they have Hervey and Jones. Hamilton had years of GM instability before they got Austin. This is part of pro sports. We are stuck in arrested development here, with an aging, meddling, out-of-touch owner and a complacent GM who no longer has the edge to bring in the best talent possible. And fans who are apparently so devoted to two men and their cult of personality that they can’t even imagine the possibility of making a change at owner and GM – which is something that every other franchise in this league has done, multiple times, in the past 19 years.

I turned the set off after Marsh fumbled the ball.

They played their heart out and had a very good first half despite losing Muamba but after Klassen went down the defense got torched. The Marsh fumble and the decision not to pin Edmonton back (48 yard FG attempt) while Jourdain was sidelined really sucked the momentum as did the unwarranted penalty on Knapton on a live play. These little things add up when your playing the top team in the league in their house.

Another complicated off season for the Als while Soccer and Baseball continue to gain and the darlings Habs are off to one of their best start in a hundred years.

My advice is not to fire Popp but to sell the team to a corporate owner like Molson or another interested Billionaire who will do what is required to provide the necessary leadership and infrastructures for that team.

That is if there is a Billionaire out there willing to spend money on the organization.
Who in their right mind would be willing to spend money with no return? Unless they are going to use their financial losses as a write off.
They can not hold a GC game at the Big O given the state of the roof. No windfall from that game for any potential owner (Wettenhall at this point in time).

You're right, there seems to be more interest in having MLB come back than investing in the Alouettes and the CFL.

Is there a buyer ? That’s a very good question. It may come down to where Montreal is out a football team again for some time.

I also think the team should sue the city as the Big O is essential to the Alouettes. That stadium needs to be repaired or replaced. Its pretty sickening to see the Mayor travelling at tax payers expense shmoozing MLB because he’s a baseball fan while his city is falling apart. Frankly if Molson isn’t interested (I think he should be) there may be no hope for the Als.

Cohon had hit on the subject a couple years ago and was quickly shut up but its clear that there is no long term plan for the Alouettes right now.

Disappointing end to the season but not unexpected.

Tanner Marsh lucky this isnt Regina. Although the team obviously didnt miss the playoffs solely because of him.

I`ll give out some positive vibes - Sutton has been almost Pringle like the last 2 games and good to hear that it was only apparently a stinger with Klassen.

As far as a new owner, I would still like to know if Andrew even wants it.

Andrew will do like every other rich kid. Get his inheritance and then do whatever he wants. This team needs proper offices and training facilities if its is to compete in the CFL long term.
