Montreal at Ottawa Game Thread- Saturday September 30, 2023

Jeepers. No game thread as of yet. I thought the game started at 3:30 instead of 3:00.

Montreal up 7-0 when I tuned in and Ottawa was just intercepted in the Montreal end zone. 6:39 left in the first quarter.

I uh… I guess that was a recovered punt??

How has that not been exploited before???

Well someone sure knows how to exploit the rule book

Just saw Antwi do a dribble onside “punt” that went six inches and was recovered by him to reset the downs to first down. I believe he tried this unsuccessfully previously against Calgary if I remember correctly.

Not in favour of this type of playground tactic the other team has little chance of stopping.

Cudos to him for knowing the rules.
That one ranks right next to the ass-fumble rule, though

It was tried unsuccessfully by him earlier this year. I don’t like it.

It worked it’s in the rules and now you are going to see it a lot more.

And they wonder why so many people think the CFL is bush.

That’s what I am afraid of. I don’t want to see it more.

But since it’s in the rules at present it’s a good play I suppose. Hope to see the rule changed.

Agreed . Bet there will be a modification on the kicking rules on this very play

Would he have been able to recover for the first down and keep running?

I don’t see why not.

Yes usually we see the current Edmonton coach coming up with these strange wrinkles

They may simply modify the rule for any such play from scrimmage, or beyond scrimmage, such that the downs re-set only if the yardage gained would be a first down anyway.

Which would make that type of play useless. Why dribble it instead of just running with it?
