They had no uniforms left. The new sponsor did them a favor setting them up a year early… You don’t think they were playing with retail white helmets last season as a marketing toolyou?you ?
Richard Speer’s Group, who were interested only a couple of years ago.
Eric Lapointe’s Group, who were also interested a couple of years ago.
Molson, but previously only interested as Minority Partners.
Saputo, were interested in the past, but with the Impact losing $10+ million annually, Joey may not want to take on another money loser. Stadium funding was previously an issue IIRC.
An unknown group of developers and wealth management was said to be interested a few years ago as well, but I wonder if it’s just the LaPointe group ?
I’d be shocked if the team sold for north of $10 million. If CFL 2.0 works (lol), Halifax comes on board, and a new massive tv deal in Canada and U.S were in play, then maybe, but I have a hard time believing it.
If they were out of uniforms and had to get more it would still cost less to keep them the same and recycle one of the existing logos for another year. I doubt New Era would cover that cost.
The new logo would go on everything even as mundane as business card, stationary etc…which add up never mind costs involved with the design, launch etc…
Not an expense I would do if I was losing millions and looking at cashing out.
They couldn’t get them because Reebok pulled out. So might as well use the free opportunity to rebrand. Boivin says they’ve been working on it for the last two years…
The variable in setting the sale price is whether the new owners assume the existing debts or get the team “debt-free” … the former is obviously much lower, as it all goes into the Wettenhals bank account … the latter has to include any accounts (excluding their own loses) the Wettenhals have to pay off before (as of) the sale.
Adidas took over the Reebok (which they own) though, and most teams didn’t make any major changes outside of BC IIRC. With New Era coming on board the Als thought it was time to make a change, which they were thinking about when Reebok left and Adidas came in, but ran out of time or something like that.
I don’t think anyone will make any offer until the CBA is signed. Too much risk. The buyer could be stuck paying the bills and issuing refunds with no money coming in if there was a lockout. Even losing a pre-season game is a couple million in revenues.
Well. whomever buys the team will instantly turn the financials around by at least a few hundred thousand by removing junior and other members of the Wettenhall family off of the payroll.
Meh, any perspective ownership not named orassociated with the Molson’s or Saputo’s in Montreal shouldn’t be considered all that serious anyways. Right now it’s thousandaires and low level millionaires who are said to be interested, and with the CBA currently being negotiated we may have to wait a few more months anyways.
I’ve been told by people that I trust within the League that the Wetenhall’s (not so much Bob Sr.) want out soon though, so it’ll be interesting for the next month or so.
