It’s encouraging to see a couple of first-time starting quarterbacks finding early success in 2024.
Young, very athletic and poised confident Cameron Duke woould be a great addition to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club if they employed a quarterback coach with a proven winning background plus track record to help develop further the great forthcoming qualities of a football playing Cameron Duke long term. Give him the reigns to the starting qb position if he were somehow acquired.
So can we assume that Kelly is not returning?
CHad Kelly will return earlier than planned due to his notable progress with the counselling and that he has taken ownerhsip of his issues. The question will be how good will Dukes be by the time Chad is ready to return. Chad could end up playing second pivot, or Dukes may end up as backup and then leave for greener pastures next season. The argos have produced some notable QBs: Trevor, Zach, Cody
genius1 - thanks for your response, BUT I hope you are wrong about Kelly. The guy cost someone their job and career (female coach) and he initially lied about it. This is not his first time to be in trouble - the guy is bad news and the CFL does not need his type around. I hope the Argos show hm the door - he obviously has not been missed.
He will be back, if the Argos were going to show him the door it would’ve been weeks ago.
You don’t know enough about the situation to pass judgement.
They can’t release him while he is suspended.
Should he have problems completing the terms set out for him to return I could see him being released after that but I will bet he returns - on a 6" leash.
To “mikem” - glad to see that you too have an “opinion.” You only know what I know - which is what the news media tells us. If Kelly returns to the Argos or to another CFL team, then I believe the CFL’s Diversity Policy becomes a joke. They will have a tough time explaining why a person with known problems with alcohol and now harassing a woman should be allowed to play in the CFL. The Argo organization has a lot to explain too if they bring Kelly back - they also dismissed their female coach illegally and without just cause, in the hope of covering up the problem - depriving her of her career and future income.
You need to develop a keener sense of what is right or wrong and not to be afraid of defending the innocent. The CFL has already passed judgement on Kelly - if you recall there was no doubt what Kelly did to this woman and the CFL acted quickly. Now we have to wait and see what the Argos do, plus we may not have heard the last from either the coach involved or from the CFL. Time will tell.
Well she took her settlement money and decided not to take it to court. It was always a “he said, she said” thing but they will believe the woman, and I agree in these times that is what is going to happen.
I can’t see them getting rid of him after being on suspension for 9 games, they would’ve done it by now and saved his salary.
The team will announce his return and that he has done all the therapy etc
I expect that it would August 22nd when he gets to play, I have tickets to the Argos/Riders game. I predict Trevor Harris and Kelly playing.
mikem - It seems that you haven’t really understood the gravity of this situation - it was far more than a “He said, she said” and the judgement was based on far more than just a complaint coming from a woman. Who, according you was going to be believed over any man. There were other witnesses and at least one other coach involved, giving evidence. Your comment has just proved what is wrong with Kelly still being able to return (which I highly doubt). The fact that the coach took her settlement only shows how women try to avoid public opinion on these matters and feel pressure to take the settlement. The attitude you reveal is very disappointing - one so ingrained that you even feel free to make predictions about the disgraced player returning. I hope the CFL stand by their Diversity Policy and tell the Argos to dump the bum!
