Welcome to the final week of February as the off-season continues to fly by.
We’re about a month away from the CFL Combine and two months out from the 2025 CFL Draft, which means things aren’t slowing down anytime soon. And that will all follow a heated free agency period that’s seen multiple massive names change teams for the upcoming season. It’s been a fun winter so far.
Glad to see the Oakman signing get some love. This is a sneaky-good move for Montreal. A front four of Adeyemi-Berglund, Johnson, Oakman, and Uguak, with Wynn and Archibald as rotation guys, is going to give enemy O-lines a lot of trouble.
I should add that Oakman deserves all the love but the young Mustafa looks to be, along with Brinkman, the dominant DT’s in the CFL in the next few years. Brinkman had the highest defence grade in the CFL @ 91.4. I’m guessing Johnson is right up there. He’s a load & he’s going to be a whole lot more to handle with Oakman there.
I would venture to put our front seven against any other front seven in the league. Not saying we are TEH BEST, lol, just that I feel pretty confident about this lineup:
DE: Adeyemi-Berglund (Archibald)
DT: Johnson (Wynn)
DT: Oakman (Moultrie)
DE: Uguak (Domineck)
SLB: Murray or Cosby
MLB: Sankey
WLB: Beverette
JLB: Cantin-Arku
That is a murderers’ row of front seven talent in Edmonton. I know nothing is “won” in free agency but they will 100% no longer be the free space on the bingo card.
Absolutely. “Moose” flies under the radar because he’s in Montreal and the English CFL media tend not to pay close attention to our team, all other things being equal, but he already grades out like a monster in PFF, he’s got great pursuit speed for a DT, and he’s still young. With a guy like Oakman beside him to push the pocket, there will be opportunities for one-on-one matchups.
