TORONTO — A pair of quarterbacks are the finalists for the Canadian Football League’s (CFL) highest individual honour as the George Reed Most Outstanding Player. BC Lions pivot Nathan Rourke has never been a finalist for the award, while his Hamilton Tiger-Cats counterpart, Bo Levi Mitchell, is vying to become the fifth player to capture the title on three or more occasions.
He won’t be shutout he’ll still get the MOC trophy which will be well deserved. BLM deserves this award for this year taking us from worst to first . He also had more TD’S , more yardage and less int’s than captain Canuck on the season.
Just noticed the Ol Boll Weevils initials , BLM , align perfectly with another famous BLM…..that being Bobo82’s Life Matters. More conspiracy theory stuff, lol. Sorry , sorry , the devil made me do it.
GridironGirl , you’ll just have to let it go. Everyone from Rogers and TSN knows that Trawna is the center of the universe , and Hamilton ain’t all that far away from Hogtown. Henceforth ( this word doesn’t get used enough any more ) henceforth all major plums must fall nearby. Inevitably , undeniably , why it’s as normal as the Laffs choking in the playoffs.
Nathan over Bo- His stats are better as GGirl pointed out. Also Bo hasn’t played nearly as well down the stretch when it counted most and it seems that the voters are showing a recency bias judging by the selection of Betts.
Revenberg- Not a bad choice, but I think hardrick gets the nod.
Betts- Yeah I think he will win, but that is only because of the last 5-6 games. He didn’t do much the first 2/3rds of the season. I would give it to Howsare over Betts. He had a far more consistent season, although curiously both candidates played for what were considered to be the league’s weakest defence or certainly one of them at times this season. I am not thrilled about either nomination. On BC alone arguably Awe was better than Betts most of the year although I’m glad he isn’t nominated for reasons of pure goonery. There are several other players across the league that arguably could have been nominated over either of these two.
On the stats thing concerning Bo and Nat let’s face it …..G-Girl did a marvelous job of teaching class A cherry picking 101 . The fact remains that when you look a top of the leader board for QB yardage and TD passes thrown you see BLM on top of both .
I think you mean Rourke had more rushing yards then the leading rusher from the Als and Argos, not the entire teams. Als had 1546 yards and even as bad as Toronto was with rushing this year, they still had 929.
There was some cherry picking as there always is when advocating for a player, but you could be accused of the same thing. As has been pointed out, Rourke only threw for 6 less yards than Bo in much less playing time. I also give the eye test to Rourke. As well Rourke didn’t have Lawler, in my opinion easily the best receiver in the league. He turns a lot of errant throws and jump balls into catches. I didn’t see Bo play any better than last year and think the difference was Lawler, not only in making spectacular catches, but in drawing double coverage and opening up the field for the other receivers. Personally I would have picked Lawler for MOP from your team.
I’ve mentioned it before, but playing every game shouldn’t be a negative for Bo, it should be another positive.
So what that Rourke has trouble staying healthy? That’s not a good thing. If it were, this would be Alexander‘s award.
Bo lead the league in passing yards, TD passes, and TD to Int ratio. And, he was the only quarterback to start all 18 games. His team finished in first place. And, he should have won it last year.
