Minimum of 8 Regular Season Games in Guelph Daylight

Good news for everyone concerned about the heat/humidity/sun/UV overload/moons of Venus, or whatever other evils lurk in the daylight hours in Guelph.

Personally, I’m happy with the possibility of Sunday afternoon games in July or August. Night games are OK too. The year in Guelph is good for a change of pace, and a small inconvenience in order to upgrade to IWS2 in 2014.

Who said the lights aren’t good enough? As Scott Mitchell said it’s an insane rumour.
The quote about the lights came from the reporter for the Edmonton Journal, so it’s not exactly an “official source”
Glad Mitchell clarified it so we can put this thread to bed

Bob Young says that all tier 1 season ticket holders will sit in perfect weather and all tier 2 and lower will have to sit in the rain and cold. :stuck_out_tongue:

Did you even read what I said… even if the lights aren’t good enough, and Mitchell never said they were good enough all he said is that they will be playing night games.

Actually, the Edmonton Reporter wrote that a CBC, Calgary, reporter had brought up the Guelph lighting inadequacy after hearing about the issue from Tom Higgins, the league’s Director of Officiating. I’d bet against it being “an insane rumour” but, if Mitchell says they will be playing night games there, perhaps testing has since shown the lighting to actually be bright enough or the team and/or league are planning to pay the, what could be considerable, costs involved to rent supplementary lighting or even permanently upgrade what’s already in place.

Good to see that Mitchell cleared things up about not wanting all day games.

Of course I was told by the Ticats, when they were trying to get me to renew my seats for Guelph, that they were trying to get all day games because people were complaining about the drive to Guelph at night.

That was during the week as in a Thursday or Friday games, as people work till 5pm and have NO chance in making it to Guelph by 7pm not Saturday nights games!

OK, I'll clarify what I was told. They said that they were trying to get all day games and all weekend games. I just thought it would be obvious that they weren't going to schedule day games on weekdays.

If I'm correct, it is the lack of sufficient lighting that would make HD broadcasts of night games impossible. It would seem to me that rental lighting can be incorporated with the existing stadium lighting in order to make things work...

makeilvi r u insane last time i checked the ticats played in the Canadian Football league canada gay is our countrys birthday i think All 4 games should be held on that day

So for night games at Guelph they have to broadcast in SD not HD, that doesn’t seem to be a big problem. Games weren’t broadcast in HD up until a couple of years ago anyway.

I still see sports highlights on Sportscentre HD from "big league" games that are in SD if I remember correctly, every once in a while.

An issue that seems to be overlooked is that an HD broadcast also helps with challenges and getting a correct call from the review room.

2012: Montreal at Calgary
2011: Winnipeg at Hamilton, Toronto at Calgary
2010: Montreal at Saskatchewan, Toronto at Calgary
2009: Toronto at Hamilton, Montreal at Calgary

Nine games in the last four years have been played on Canada Day. Guess the league doesn’t think it’s so stupid.

Cohon says sched. out next week.

But it’s a “non issue” -

The suggestion was that it might not be sufficient for high-definition broadcasts
Higgins, didn't know what he was talking about and some reporter repeated Higgins comment without even checking the facts. Higgins admitted that he hadn't been to Guelph since 1984 and has no idea that the lighting could have been updated since then................lol

There will be at least 2 night games.

I have nothing against playing games on Canada Day, what I think would be stupid is if we played on Canada Day because that will require over 2 hours of driving on a holiday where people have all kinds of plans. We have a party every year on Canada day and almost everyone I know is at some sort of event that night so if they were to do that there making people chose and thats just a gamble. If they did want it on Canada Day a 12 30 ish game might not be bad though.

Sounds like more excuses for not going to Ticat games. I've heard them all. When the schedule comes out people complain that Thursday nights are no good because they have to work the next day, or that weekend games in the summer are no good because they go to the cottage or camping or other things going on, day time games are not good in the summer because it's too warm or that Labour Day game at 1PM is no good because it's too early or that the 6PM Labour Day game is too late, or that evening games in October are too cold.

So true, I’m sure I’ve heard every one of these on this very board!
