McDaniels very impressive as well

I'm watching the game again this morning and am very impressed with what McDaniels has done on kick returns. This guy really put the cats in good field position all night and played an important part in the win.

True True..He looks like the Kick return man we have been looking for since Earl's "the pearl" departure.

Hey, Hey... I wouldn't go that far!

McDaniels looked good out there though.. My only gripe about his game is lack of finishing speed... this is the second game he has had only one man to beat with blockers at his side and he gets tackled by the kicker..

I'm liking what I see so far though!

Currie looked great as well!

He has to learn to Finish the Runs for TD..
But he been a Breath of Fresh air at that spot

Every return it looks like he's going to break away for a TD. Very impressed. He and Currie should get full time return duties

The problem isn't his finishing speed, it's the fact that he looks back over his shoulder to see where the other guys are. Once he stops that, he will break one for sure. He's definately got impressive skills on returns.

And that would cause him to lose that break away(finishing) speed... I agree with you though, if he stops that we could have a great returner on our hands.

In game one against the Argos, the kicker had to trip him and should have been penalized. In game two against the Lions, the kicker damaged one of his knee ligaments when he tackled McDaniel which put the Lions at a disadvantage for the remainder of the game. Even when he gets tackled, Marquay McDaniel is making things happen on kickoff and punt returns.

When the guy is making returns where another move or two he is going to break it, one can't complain! LOL

May I humbly suggest that he pick side (a) or side (b) of the kicker and HIT THE GAS when he's one guy away from paydirt? He might run into the kicker, but the point is to force the issue.

McCallum got hurt trying to take him down, regardless.

All the great kick returners (Henley, Bennett, and Winfield stand out for the Cats) have one main characteristic: they are decisive. Adjust on the fly if one must, but please FLY. LOL

McDaniel has a lot of potential. Great breakout game for him as a returner!

OSki Wee Wee,

I agree that McDaniels is looking good, and I also noticed that he seemed to slow down after gaining the tough yards and gets in open field. Oh well, he has done a great job so far. I believe that he does what most good returners often do, and that’s make one decisive move after they catch the ball (ie. start going one way, and then quickly bust it the other way). This has a huge impact on the coverage team, and in particular often makes the first one or two guys miss when they are sprinting down field.

Not to take away anything from Marquey, but I also believe that after several years the TiCats finally have a little depth, and this is showing on special teams. Teams with depth in the CFL are able to have a lot of non-starters contribute by blocking and tackling on Special Teams. I really believe you can see a difference in this area this year.

Something else to note, after two games, both opposition punters have ended up injured. As much as I would like seeing McDaniels take it to the house, I also have no problem if he wants to run over the kicker. It can create a big advantage in this league with the amount of kicking and smaller rosters, and not just for the current game, but also for future ones. If he had run into Toronto’s kicker instead of trying to go around him (getting tripped – thanks for missing that one refs), he could have put him out for the season, as the kicker was playing with a dislocated or separated shoulder. I don’t want to see anyone get hurt, but playing with a shoulder like that just isn’t smart.

I said looks like not is. He has potential and gets us very good field position which is something we have not had in a very long time. I like this guy. Lets hope he continues to find the seam and exploit it

I understood what you meant.. I was just bugging ya.

We have some guys that can accelerate when they get an opening and we have a few of them.

He averaged 23.8 yards on kick returns and 17.4 on punt returns.

Kid played well. Kudo's to the entire special team unit. We're not taking dumb penalties (clipping, holding and no yards), and the boys are sticking with their jobs. It was mentioned earlier that we have significantly upgraded our Canadian depth, and this is really showing on special teams play. I'm still not convinced that Setta is 100%, but overall both the coverage and return units have made big strides...and its just week 2...If McDaniels keeps making the early reads (he is decisive at the point of attack), he will start bringing a few to the house. Also, both McDaniels and Currie show good hands and protect the ball well...

Yup, really like both these guys for sure.

Great to see a kid who can rip off multiple lengthy kick returns. He's what we've been looking for.

I honestly believe he'll be taking one to the house in the next few weeks, the guy is the most explosive returner w've had in a very long time.

If our special teams keep this up we're going to have a much better year. What a difference good field position makes. I remember sitting in the stands last year watching our Cats starting at their own 10, 12 or 15 yard line, thinking "What the hell are we supposed to do with this?".
