Mayor Fred to be on on CHML Friday morning

"We've worked hard with the city and Pan Am (organizers) to collaborate on a facility. We've put our points forward and they haven't been heard." - Andrew Iler, President of the National Cycling Centre Hamilton

Seems like the Cats difficulties with City Hall are pretty legit, now that a completely different organization has come out and said that Council has pretty much ignored their concerns as well.

He's continuing to take swipes at the Tiger-Cats in this radio segment basically blaming the Ticats for this situation......

The city’s Pan Am spokesperson, David Adames, said the city and the Tiger-Cats have agreed not to comment on the stadium issue as they approach mediation (The Spectator , May 13, 2010)

Ahhhh … now I know what this means ! (yeah, right)

…and rightly he should. If Bob Young had concerns about the location, he should have raised them a year ago when we first found out about these plans, not at the 11th hour and 59th minute.

Evil, they knew he had concerns, Bob just didn't air it publicly at the time not wanting to take the limelight, hoping that the city would adjust and talk with him. But they didn't, they forged ahead anyways and had this up their sleeve if Bob ever did come out publicly - to take swipes at Bob now that he should have gone public back then.

The city is not to be trusted, they have no integrity and are bad news.

What part of this is unclear ?

“David Adames, said the city and the Tiger-Cats have agreed not to comment on the stadium issue as they approach mediation (The Spectator , May 13, 2010)”

And what does Fred do?..go on CHML for an hour claiming innocence and shifting blame and trying to once again sell his West Harbour pipe dream…unbelievable arrogance !

Right, he didn’t want to take any “limelight”, that’s pretty weak justification. As I recall, Caretaker started a thread back in October asking US what we thought about the whole thing (like we would know what the hell we are talking about). Quite frankly it smells like he couldn’t be bothered to do his homework, and now that it’s time to write the exam, he’s relying on the opinions of a few internet cranks to try to get an extension…

How many spots are required? 1,200 seems like quite a bit on site.
Any of discussions on 820AM I’ve heard state that there are about 12,000 spots within walking distance. Are you recommending that, for a 28,000 seat stadium, there should be 28,000 parking spots on-site?

How many spots are there on-site at Copps? (Which, I guess is limited to the Jackson Square underground), 500? 1,000? Amazing that 18,000 have ever found their way in there.

I guess I’m just struggling to see what’s going to make a site (anywhere, RHC, Airport, Harbour, Cambridge, etc.) actually meet this seemingly ambigous criteria. (Of course, unless the anser is "wherever Bob thinks it should go.)

I almost choked when Fred ended the segment saying he hoped the discussion at the Pan Am summit on Monday isn't about the stadium?.....why Fred?......because both Bob Young and Scott Mitchell will be there to defend themselves? (unlike today's hour long CHML show)

This guy is an arrogant, master manipulator and will stop at nothing to discredit the Ticats while shifting blame.

You are entitled to your opinion sir. I don't think it's a weak argument based on how I view Bob Young over the years as having owned the TigerCats. Bob not doing his homework? I doubt that somehow my friend, just my opinion.

Mayor Fred brought up the idea of

a YMCA type fitness facility for the general public and athletic club's use.

A fitness facility on site could be rented by athletic clubs
for training and they could also rent rooms for meetings

and gym memberships could be sold to the public

but a lot more than that income is needed
to avoid losing money on this stadium.

P.S.

The City won't be able to generate
enough revenue from the stadium itself.

Mayor Fred better find a way to find commercial developers

who believe that they can attract enough retail stores

to put in a big retail complex at the Rheem site

to provide scads of rental income to support it.

By the way, the only way the stadium will get upgraded

from a 15,000 seat bare bones stadium
to a CFL quality and sized stadium.

is with $50 million dollars from developers interested in
locating a commercial complex adjacent to the stadium

The stadium has to be built on a site

where it can generate sufficient income

to cover the stadium's operating expenses
and hopefully make a profit on the building.

but even if Mayor Fred can get developers
to buy in to setting up at the Rheem site

I am afraid that if he does not budge
much on parking and road access

the Rheem site still won't work
as business site for the Tiger Cats.

My view is that Bob had hoped the city would put much more evaluation into a number of sites – based on the city being the owners of the stadium and wanting to ensure their tenants are going to thrive. That’s what I took from his Talk820 interview.

I would suggest that evildoctor and some others make an effort to attend “Hamiton Economic Summit” where Bob Young and others will be next week.
Home work done or not, what matters is all those looking for Brown Field Clean up support Harbour and all those with “real” money at stake, reject it.

In the Mayors words this morning, this is the only way we will get the Rheem Site cleaned up. I question a leader that sees only one option and is blind to all else. Again in the Mayors words. we approved this site only three mouths ago. So up to that vote, please tell us, what was Bob Young to say or do.

deerhunter: I am a bit reluctant to defend the Mayor but for the record …he DID mention that the summit is about all of the stuff that will be involved with the games. Not just about the stadium location. He then said people will still likely want to raise the issue of the stadium location and they are welcome to do so.
Hardly enough here to justify choking or the last line in your post.
And to be fair this morning’s appearance on CHML is a regular monthly event for him.
The Mayor was not around to defend himself when CHCH TV interviewed Bob Young.
My conclusion so far though: I think both Bob Young and the Mayor both genuinely want an agreement.
The Mayor seemed a bit more flexible than he has been so far. Bob Young must know his chances of getting the city to budge from the west harbour site are slim to none…but at least he seems willing enough to put his strong objections aside and see what happens.
So I see that as being a lot more positive than things were a week ago.

I would not be surprised to see this end in the Ticats being sold/moved. Bob could likely recoup 10 to 15 million by selling to the Landsdowne group who would have to pay that much just for an expansion team. Even Moncton would be a possibility if they have a buyer.

Ron: This is getting tiresome. You have said this so many times. "by the way..." is an insult to every poster on this forum. You keep repeating it because you think people here are stupid and do not realize the extra 50 million is needed. It is redundant and shows an extremely narrow -sighted approach to a very complex problem. Offer some suggestions for a change fer cryin' out loud.

For your information and enlightenment:

We are still in a process!!!! None of us including you know how things will turn out!!!! There are more players still to be heard from including Hostco and the Province!!!!
Bob is still negotiating.....even after raising the same issue!!!! He is willing to see if there are some options or new approaches to solving this situation!!!!! Good for him!!!!

You are making a great case for a moratorium to be imposed on posts like this until after the mediation is over.

I hope the Mayor Lose his Job in Fall
From The Scratching Post
The mayor and Ticat owner Bob Young will both be attending Monday’s economic summit and Eisenberger may also face a challenge from former mayor Larry Di Ianni in this fall’s municipal election

I hope Former Mayor kicks his Butt

Although Hf I think Bob will explore every avenue possible in order to prevent this, as he’s said failure is not an option. If it means going more public if necessary on issues, he will I think. Stay tuned.

Tom: I think it would be good if a good chunk of the posters on this forum went down to Monday's meeting and raised their concerns.
It's a great opporunity to get access to the people who are involved.
