Masters Pool 2025 (4th Annual)

Shoot, I’m just happy I have four left, including Rahm, who will make the cut so that I can still be in the race chasing down some of you cagey scoundrels instead of being sent off with the black flag.

Still watching it, but definitely harder for the afternoon groups today, with wind and the greens drying out.

Below are the scores after 2 rounds. Most of us did well and no one had two players cut and therefore no one will have to count an 80 for the last two rounds. Stickweld and myself have a bone to pick with Koepka who came into 18 at +1 and took an unplayable for an 8 to miss the cut by 3. After today I will no longer post players that were cut for the last two rounds.

This is by far the lowest scoring pool yet and the lowest scoring Masters in a long time. Last year the pool was won with a -2 score. No doubt this reflects the near perfect conditions all week.

Good luck to all in the final round!

I thought I would mention that it appears to me that it is very possible that there will be a tie in the pool this year for only the second time, the first being year one. The tiebreakers in place won’t resolve the tie due to the duplication of picks among the contenders and the proliferation of top contenders all doing well for the most part, given a Rahm or two.

Of the top two the tie could be broken and Crash would win if Morikawa pulled ahead of Aberg or Scheffler. If the top 4 players remain the same and Crash and Pants tied for first there is no way to break the tie. Next year I will add the 5th player as a tiebreaker which would give the tie to Crash, but I can’t do that retroactively this year.

Bobo and Grover could easily win if Morikawa and/or Rahm play well and/or Aberg tanks today. If that turns out to be the case there is no way to break that tie as their picks are exactly the same. If meeting in public those two should check what each of them plan to wear ahead of time.

The only other potential winners I can see are those tied for 5th. For that to happen there would need to be a combination of things, but most importantly Dechambeau, who none of them have, would have to plummet. Of the 3 tied for 5th Ted and Abbey also have the exact same picks and likely dress the same as well so there is no way to break that tie. If FYB won he wouldn’t be tied by the others in all likelihood.

I can’t think of any fair way to break a tie, but if anyone has any last minute suggestions I’m all ears. There would also have to be consent by all of the top 7. Assuming that won’t happen I will have to declare co winners if there is a tie. I will institute further tiebreakers for next year including the 5th pick, but I don’t see anything I can do for this year.

Look, Jon, I do this for fun. If Crash & I end up in a two way tie for 1st, I will concede 1st place to Crash. Bottom line, my #5 didn’t make the cut, Crash’s did. I hereby disqualify myself from top spot in the event of a tie.

I agree that next year the rules should be tweaked to account for this kind of situation. I mean, c’mon, how often would you see the situation, which could happen today, that 2 people’s top 4 choices finish 1 thru 4. Blind luck.

But it was fun. I may have to enter a few more β€œcontests”.

Cheers.

You are correct that this type of situation would be very rare, especially with two other sets of entries having all 5 picks the same. A lot of things needed to happen, including almost all of the top players doing well, which rarely happens. We’ll see what happens today. You could still win or lose by 10.

A fine Masters tournament was close as was the pool. As I suspected we might we have co winners.

I have now updated the Ring of Honour/Circle of Champions thread to add the pool winners. It is linked below.

In order to avoid ties in the future as the pool expands, next year will include new tiebreaker rules.

The first tiebreaker will remain a count back, which is appropriate since it is golf. Unfortunately this doesn’t help when the top 4 picks are the same.

The second tiebreaker will be the 5th pick made. This would have helped this year but not always as there were two other possible ties this year with exactly the same 5 picks.

The final tiebreaker will be asking those potentially tied after 3 rounds to predict the winner and also the winning score and those will be used in that order.

If none of those work then you will be fit to be tied.

Well-earned victory and half-green jackets  for you and @pantsonfire - congratulations!

What a tough contest - it’s difficult enough to pick four golfers who all will be under par for the tournament.
