Excuse after excuse is all we get here. Good coaches find ways to win and bad coaches find ways to lose. All I have seen in the past two years is a team that cannot make adjustments before during or after a loss. The Calgary and Toronto games where two games that a good coach wins. The Montreal game we where simply out coached in every department. Look at Winnipeg and you can see how fast a good coach can turn a team around. I say Marshall had been given nine lives and he’s used about eight!
to say our offence is complex is a joke,im sorry but throwing little dump off passes all the time is peewee football play calling. How many deep passes have we thrown this year?maybe 5or6
I agree with you Leo 100%.thats what i have been trying to say all along.
You guys don't get it, do you? A COHESIVE, EXPERIENCED OFFENSIVE LINE WILL GIVE MAAS TIME TO THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD!!!
For crying out loud, how many times do I have to say it before it's FINALLY drilled into your heads?
Then how would you charcterize Wally Buono after the Lions’ performance last year.
They started the year undefeated for how many games?
Only to become losers down the stretch and bow out in the playoffs.
I’m looking for the opposite. I want to see a team improve as the year goes on and peaks in the playoffs. It’s a long process.
There are 15 games to go. I’ll only be concerned when the playoff situation becomes an issue and we’re not getting better.
For people to panic after 3 games tells me they not fully aware of the CFL dynamic.
Problems I've seen are
1-Secondary's lack of cohesion, coaching and athletisism.
2- Defensive line's lack of discipline
3- Receiver's lack of heart.
4- Barrachnea or whatever his name is...is too slow and can't quarterback the defense.
5-Simple offensive schemes ( but how do you do the downfield stuff when you can't get a receiver to catch a ball 10 yards out...)
Winnipeg has improved because they fixed their defense first. Barrin Simpson in Hamilton and you have a very different situation. Hamilton fixed the offense the results might be spectacular but will require more time...
Even Marshall alluded to this last week in the Spec. He was concerned for the run blocking and noted it’ll take time.
So the short passing game made perfect sense to me if you’re not ready with the run block aspect of your game yet.
(passes a double shot of bourbon to sigpig)
Romulan Ale, if you please...
Better yet - a double pan-galactic gargle-blaster.

We haven't really played anybody close in our first 3 games. We have been outrun, outpassed, outkicked, outclassed and most importantly, out coached in each encounter.
This is not to say that we won't win tonight's game. Stranger things have happened, particularly when jobs are on the line. However, a win tonight would be a real surprize to me, so go ahead, Hamilton, surprize me!
Call me crazy but I would replace Marshall with Buono faster than you can say 0-4. For the record I wanted Marshall to do well but the numbers don’t lie.
We cannot continue to give up 400+ yards per game and attempt to run a successful ball-control defence. As far as Marshall's status, I do not think Greg is the fall-guy here presently.
The fact we seem to consistently get outschemed (especially on defence) and fail to win the battle of haltime adjustments IS a recurring problem. That ultimately rests at the door of the head coach.
If we continue to get picked apart defensively, we must go in a new direction at defensive coordinator. We are simply too predictable on the defensive side of the ball too often -- what is the identity of the defence two-plus years into the Five-Year Plan?? Anyone care to make a guess that doesn't involve a burning smell?
FYI: I do not see it as a personnel issue as much as there is no coherent scheme >>> read lack of varied blitzing and disguised zones in the secondary. What we have is either 4-rush 8-drop vanilla zone coverages or an all-out blitz package that rarely fools anyone. I would argue Cheat, Cotton, etc. succeed in their pressure IN SPITE of our sets.
Marshall and co. need to turn a corner and soon. 0-6 is looming by July 21 and that abyss doesn't have a corner to turn...
Oski Wee Wee,
What 5 year plan?
What 5 year plan?
Go to the archives of the old site – the five-year plan of the Bob Young era has been bandied about from time to time on this site. The goal: to be a Grey Cup contender in five years – both off the field in a team operations sense as well as the on-the-field product. This is year three…and the stated idea is to host a home playoff game. With a potential Western crossover and 0-6 not being out of the question if we lost to go 0-4 tonight, that would be really up in the air.
Oski Wee Wee,
He won't be fired after a loss tonight! give it a break people there is more to this then our head coach! how about every player on the team having a good look in the mirror before they put that jersey on tonight!
You guys don’t get it, do you? A COHESIVE, EXPERIENCED OFFENSIVE LINE WILL GIVE MAAS TIME TO THROW THE BALL DOWNFIELD!!!
For crying out loud, how many times do I have to say it before it’s FINALLY drilled into your heads?
Coming from someone who has said for years now…“Watch the tapes” in relation to the “O” and “O Line”…
Let me ask you this…how many sacks have we given up???
Lighten up on the “O” line as per our pass effectiveness ( the run is another story )!
Let’s look at play selection and long attempts! Penalties and missed routes, bad passes! Did I mention play selection and long attempts?
You’ve got weapons there coaches…USE THEM!
It doesn't take 5 years to build a contender, just look at Winnipeg, they just started retooling last year and they're already back in the race.
We’ll also be back in the race with a timely win tonight. And I emphasize the word ‘timely’.
GIVE IT TIME. There are so many new faces here. It’s all a matter of execution and reps.
are we talking days or years? why doesn’t it take other teams with new players so long to gel? did these players come from other school and professional teams that stunk up the joint for years after they arrived too? then it’s a wonder any team ever wins at all.
One of the deisres of the new ownership was to bring continuity and stability to this franchise which has lacked just that.
Firing a coach so early in the season would go against that.
I’d give him the entire season, at least.
early in the season? hasn’t he been there for about 4 years?
ummm, hasn’t he had quite a few entire seasons already?
