MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Alouettes acquired veteran quarterback Jason Maas from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for Canadian fullback Jeff Piercy on Friday.

The deal was finalized after the Ticats signed free-agent quarterback Casey Printers on Thursday, but Maas initially balked at going to Montreal. A league source told The Canadian Press that Maas later agreed to report to the Alouettes and in fact had caught an early-morning flight to join his new team.

Maas fills a need for Montreal. Veteran quarterback Anthony Calvillo hasn't practised this week due to a back injury suffered in a loss last week to the B.C. Lions, and Calvillo isn't expected to play in the rematch this weekend against the Lions.
